Do I purchase a warranty?

HI! I am about to buy a Jayco Redhawk 26xd 2019. My dealer wants me to pay $5200 for a 3 year bumper to bumper after market warrenty. Is that a good or bad idea? I buy it on Friday. Please help! Also wants $1500 for that protective coating stuff. I read that is not a good deal.

Just so you know 2019 models come with 2 years warranty from Jayco. They bump 2020 to 3 years. Also Jayco is paying for 1 year road side assistance from Coach-Net.

thanks

This was on their rental fleet and just came up for sale. Wouldn't the 2 year warranty be about expired? What about an extended warranty on motor?

Read the fine print! What is the deductible? Are certain components pro-rated for wear and tear? Do you have to pay for diagnostics and or labor charges?

X2! No to both.

$5K pays for a whole bunch of visits by a mobile RV tech (hopefully you won't need them).

Best bet (if you're not handy yourself) is make friends with someone handy with tools (stock up on some beer). This is your best strategy.

Also, did you get a really GOOD deal on the rig, because rental units can take a beating from renters. Make sure you verify that EVERYTHING works correctly (hot water, slide, water pump, batteries are good, furnace, fridge, etc) before you drive off the lot.

What is your tolerance for failure?

When I took my coach to the dealer 2 weeks ago for verification of warranty issues I talked to a gentleman that had purchased a used motor home. He was at his 4 service appointment within the first 8 months of ownership. According to him the repair bills totaled over 3,000 for the first 3 and since he purchased an extended warranty his cost was only 300. During that visit he was there because the circuit board on his furnace we out and they were trying to find a replacement. The gentleman was on a trip and passing through the area when his trouble started.

Use your judgement and determine what your tolerance for system failure is and what your ability to pay to repair those failures are. Also, as someone else stated, determine what you knowledge and ability is to repair system failures.

The other thing nobody has mentioned or suggested is that you can purchase the warranty, use the heck out of the trailer in the first 60 to 90 days and if there are no issues cancel the warranty within the initial 90 day period.

Since this is a used unit that was in a rental fleet there will not be any Jayco warranty at all. More than likely rentals are specifically mention in the "What is not covered" section of the warranty.

Just food for thought.

Thanks Dave. I'm so glad I found this site for feedback! They say a rental is good because they are constantly clearing and repairing anything that may have went wrong. I researched and 56,999 seemed like a good price for the Redhawk 26xd. I'm new to this and researching as much as possible. I don't sign the agreement til Friday

39,000 miles seems a little high for a 2019. Ditto on NO, for both of those charges. I would push the dealer for a free "used vehicle" warranty, for at least 6 months. You would get one, if you were buying a used car from a dealer. The same should apply to the MH. Just my personal opinion...

Yep...I just researched that. I found a 2019, 100 miles away for $63k that is brand new. I also think 39k miles is super high. It was a rental

Step back, take a deep breath and weigh your options. The warranty and “special sealant” heck no. Save your money, neither are worth what you pay. As far as the camper goes, don’t get starry eyes and buy something you’ll regret just because it’s convenient and the dealer is leaning on you to do so. If it’s too much money with too many miles then it is. If there are better deals out there then hit the reset button and look elsewhere. The last thing you want is a 10 year loan on something you realize you got shafted on.

OMG!!!!!! Nooooo....that is a steal!! I found one in wisconsin for $65K. Now I am pretty sure I'm not buying a 26xd with 39.5K miles for 57K. I really am in no hurry and want to make sure I get the correct rig. I'm in Minnesota and cannot use it for a few months anyways. That would be so fun to fly out there and drive back. Find one in Florida for me! LOL Thanks again Bud.....Danielle

I really appreciate everyone's input. I am now totally not wanting to buy the one they got me financing for. I am afraid that 39K is too many miles for a 2019! WAAAAAH. Danielle
