Dometic Microwave fell off wall while driving!

We have an 09 Jayco Greyhawk with a Dometic Microwave. On a recent trip the microwave fell off the wall while driving, smashing the stove top below it! Has anyone else had this occur? Upon further examination the top two bolts pulled out of the back of microwave. This looks like a poor design as the back does not look strong enough to support the weight. I can't see how they all don't fail. Amazingly it works fine even after the fall. I am trying to figure out how to rehang it in a more reliable way.

I have not heard of anyone mentioning this issue before. Might be worth a call to Jayco, with your Vin number, just to see what they have to say.

THAT is not acceptable from any manufacturer and I don't care what year it is. You are soo lucky that nothing was cooking on the stove at the time. You need to talk with the top man on this one!

I have a 2011 Jayco Greyhawk 31FS, and my Dometic microwave just fell off the wall driving last night. I too am trying to figure out what to do. There are no screws holding it from the top. I have no idea how this thing is supposed to be held on? I will give Jayco a call.

Show a picture of the situation we might be able to help you. It should have fasteners and maybe they missed the studs. So reverse the situation and find the studs with a stud finder.

Are you the first owner? If not the prior owner(s) or a technician may have removed or had the microwave removed without the washers being reinstalled. Or, it could be a nut rattled off over time and the washer fell off but was not reinstalled. Lots of scenarios here where other than Jayco could be at fault.

If reinstalling I would use locknuts/binder nuts (or Locktite Blue) and washers for a little extra insurance.

Good reason for me to tug on things to check for looseness or track down sources of rattles.

Rods can be straitening and as said a few bigger washers on the rod. Also when in stalled check if you can lift the bottom towards you (and if so install a few L-brackets on the bottom. In transport the microwave shouldn't have any movement. If there is things will brake again.

Good question. If you are and you know of no work done in this area, you probably ought to let Jayco CS know about this and maybe ask for their solution/input. Especially since there have been two separate instances reported on this thread.
