I have been to two different places, and thought the shock I bought would fit, it looked like it would anyway, but I was wrong, where has anyone bought a shock to hold the door open at, I would really appreciate the info,

thank, Mark

in an emergency, we took one off the Exterior TV door and put it on the door... It is not the same and is actually too strong. but worked in a pinch.

I bought a gas strut on Amazon. I found the data information on the existing strut and did a search for a similar unit. My strut was a 20 inches, and 20 pounds. I suspect there is a few different struts sizes they use

I replaced mine with one from good old Amazon. I used the ends from the old strut because they were a tad smaller than the new ones which would hit the door.

I also added a lanyard on the top of the door to prevent it from opening more than it should. I once had my grandson open the door in a high wind and the wind yanked the door out of his hand and ripped the strut mount completely out of the bottom of the door. Live and learn.

Do you have pictures of your Lanyard? I have looked at doing something like this, but have not found a way to keep the Lanyard from hanging out the top of the door on the exterior.. .
