Driving in 100+ heat

We have a 29MV with the V-12 gas engine. We are planning to drive from So. Calif to Montana in early August. The itinerary takes us up I15 through Las Vegas. I'm concerned about the 105+ temps and how the engine will perform. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

No different than usual unless something is wrong with the engine.

You have the new V12 model hehe . A newer MH will be like driving a newer car.

#1 key; keep your MH well maintained. Next think about how to keep your engine cool. Try not to apply any excess loads on the engine. Keep an eye on your temperature gauge, slow down if you need to, aka back off on the throttle if needed. If possible drive during the cooler parts of the day.

Another big item to remove any excess load(s) from the engine is the engine AC unit. Do not use it if your engine temp is elevated. Run your generator for AC. If needed have one or two (120V) small clip on fans to aim some cool air your way.

One thing I always do at least once a year. I hose off the radiator (don't use a power washer). This removes the excess dirt, bugs, etc, so it can operate more efficiently.

Have a fun trip!

X2 Grumpy. Both Ford 6.8 V10 (old) and 7.3 V8 (new) are designed to take a beating. I wouldn’t be overly concerned.

I want one!!!

The V-10 will be fine as long as you take it easy and keep an eye on the temperature gauge. Now the transmission, on the other hand...

I live in S. TX, so 100+ is a fact of life for months sometimes. Hauling across hundreds of miles of black asphalt, and never a problem with the power train or drive train.

If the motor and transmission are in good repair, they should be just fine. Keep an eye on your gauges though just to be sure. The trans temp is one reason I've always wanted to run a Scan Gauge in my unit. Like to keep an eye on that if I can...

Now, keeping the passengers cool? That's another issue. And if the generator door is not vented, that will cause problems too. The generator gets to sucking in HOT air, and will shut down.

Sometimes it's kind of nice though because you don't need to run the water heater. The tank water gets plenty warm for a good shower!!

LOL!! Ya, the V-10 block is long enough! Hate to see how far back the darn dog house would go with a V-12!
