Drove it for the first time.
Actually it's not the very first time. I drove it five miles up the highway to the tire dealer and back two weeks ago. Today it was about thirty-five. For the tire trip I hired a tow truck driver to follow me to the dealer. The deal I offered was I would pay him $100.00 whether he towed me or not. The old tires were the 2002 originals. I bought Hercules all season light truck tires. The Hercules brand is the Cooper discount product built in South Korea, five year warranty. I paid $882.00 for all six mounted and balanced, ten each to the three guys that did the work plus the C note to the tow driver.
Today I finished cleaning and detailing the interior except for shampooing the carpet. It looks REALLY good. A friend who is a professional detailer stopped by last week, even he was impressed. I even vacuumed the entire textile head liner. I'll post some pictures if anyones interested.
So except for the short trip to the tire dealer the motor home hasn't moved for eight years and sat with dead batteries for six and a half years. Everything works, everything. Lots of new parts before I started it, fuel tank pulled cleaned, sealed and new pump. Changed oil and filter, air filter, belt, plugs, and so on for both the V10 and the genset. One thing that really bugged me was that the engine heater venting only blew warm air out of the defroster. I rerouted the vacuum hose and "POOF" warm air to the floor too. The trip today revealed one problem. The transmission needs to be re-trained. I hope someone here can offer some advice.
I've learned a lot here. The people here are generous with their time and knowledge. There's the occasional grumpy old man but what the hell, from time to time I take a sour spell myself.
Best to all.
