Its great to hear its working thus far. I've only taken my rig out from storage for a monthly 20 min drive a few times since install and its been running good as well.

I think my peace of mind makes even fun to drive now ? Crazy what a noise like that does to your sanity.

We changed out belt. Ill tell you it was one of the best things we have done to our rig. It is so much nicer to drive without that squealing noise.

1800 mile trip GA to MA and back not once did i hear it

Thank you forum you guys are great !

Just the belt? You didn't add the pulley? I'm afraid if I just change the belt, the problem will come back after the belt has broken in. It seems the root cause is a long span of unsupported serpentine belt...

Anyway, I received the pulley some time yesterday or early this morning (found it on the porch when I left for work this morning) and will be installing it ahead of an upcoming trip in a couple weeks.

We just changed the belt, used a Dayco belt. We felt if that didn't do the trick then we could add the pully later. But just the belt this time around.

Cool! I'm interested to hear if that's a long-term fix.

I'm with Bob, I'm afraid you will probably have the noise come back down the road until you add the additional pulley. But will be interesting to see how long it takes before the noise comes back.

FWIW, when I ordered P/N "YS-385", my vendor automatically "updated" the order to the other "1L2Z8678AD" part number which is the same part. So if you're ordering, it might save you a little time to use the updated part number.

My prices were a little higher than what GeorgiaRV lists, but shipping was free to my door, and I ordered from a local dealership I know and like.

I finally was able to install the pulley, and it went very well. I was able to reach adequately by removing the air cleaner element housing, and standing on an inverted 5 gallon bucket (not recommended). I took some steel wool and cleaned a bit around the attachment point (aluminum exposed to the elements for 5 years is a bit corroded) and then blew it off, as well as the bolt bore, with some canned air. Then I ran the bolt in by hand all the way in to be sure the threads were OK. Putting the pulley into place was easy. The belt deflected easily enough, and when the pulley was on the mounting boss the belt held the pulley into place. I ran the bolt in. For those following my example, keep in mind you are dealing with aluminum threads!
I put the air cleaner element back on and started the engine. The belt tracked true and looked normal running on the pulley. I ran the engine until it was up to operating temp, and ran the RPM up a few times. No issues. (This was the first time the engine was run since last Fall) I won't be able to take it out to the road for a couple of weeks, but so far I count this as a success.

Cheers

.

Somewhere in a Ford parts distribution center, there's a guy wondering why they're selling so many of those pulleys!

They must be wondering why they're going through all of these pulley's as of late?!

Thanks to mini4mw for getting the video and thanks for everyone's input in getting to the root of the issue. Love this forum.

Installed the pulley yesterday. Easy 15 minute job. Put up with that noise for 5 years. All gone now. Thanks to all!

It would be nice if this created enough of a "blip" at Ford to garner at least SOME attention. But the truth is I doubt it will.

Seems to me it wouldn't be that hard to reach out to some of the folks who are suddenly purchasing this pulley with a simple email saying "hey, we've been selling a lot of these lately, what's the deal?"

Or simply cross-referencing the part number with the VIN (if one was entered) to see which vehicles people are installing this on. I didn't enter a VIN, I simply ordered the parts by part number.

But I assume Ford has their hands full with their Bronco release, EV issues, production and supply issues, etc. So I doubt a teeny bump in the sale of pulleys is going to cross anyone's desk over at the offices of the big Blue Oval.

I doubt Ford would notice. A search for 1L2Z-8678-AD in the Summit Racing website shows 366 applications. And in the application notes, it says "passenger side".

I think it would be good if this thread was made sticky.

I was going to suggest the same. Seems like it's a prevalent problem on the V-10 engines, and dealerships cannot or will not address it.
