Electric Brake Controller?

I have a 2018 Redhawk 22J on a 2017 E-450 chassis. There is a button on the end of the tranny shift lever that turns on a light on the dash for electric brakes. I also have the 7 pin connector. Question is, do I need a controller or is it built in? I see no way to adjust trailer brakes from the dash, but the light seems to indicate the system is "live". I need to buy a trailer to haul a car but have not gotten to that point yet.

Mine is too far away to check but does pushing this button light up a little trailer figure? If so that is the tow/haul indicator. It changes the transmission torque converter lockup points for towing. It has nothing to do with the trailer brakes.

Ahh, thanks CAG, I think you're correct. I'll have to check that but I didn't know about the torque converter change. Back to the chassis manual. Bummer, then I need to buy and install a controller I guess. Crap, always something. I just bought this in October and am about ready to sell it and holler enough. Why doesn't a Class III hitch with 7 pin include a damn controller. Egad.

There is really nothing to adding a brake controller to your MH. Your E450 is should already be prewired. My E450 Minnie Winnie has the Ford Brake controller connector sitting right behind the center panel on the dash. I bought a REDARC controller with a Ford Adapter harness and it was plug and play. Nothing to it.

Thank you, you are correct. I expanded on this subject in another thread but yes, the electric controller connector was there, under the dash near the brake pedal. I installed a Teksonka controller as they had the correct pigtail and looked like a very popular model.

Not a MH, last year my controller died. Bought a Teksonka P3, very nice controller. Much better than my old one.
