Mine has always seemed weak. I just assumed that is how it was to suppose to operate.

Had to fix mine the other day- it would extend but not retract. The motor ran but no movement. When I took the cover off of the left side three metal pins fell out. Turns out there are 6 total (I think) that are just pressed into a plastic wheel that is magnetically engaged to the sprocket when the switch is depressed. I used a pair of channel lock pliers to seat all of them and it works fine now. The ones that remained in the wheel were not protruding far enough out to engage the holes in the driven gear completely. I think I may have caused this by thinking it could freewheel and horsing the cord out- that's what I get for thinking!

Replaced the electrical reel motor today. Not a bad job. Would have been easier if I’d had a bottle jack. Blocks I sometimes use under my jacks got it close. After completion it sounds great and much stronger!

These reels are not really made to reel the cord in by itself, they are to assist in the storing of the cord. I have always pulled the cord and fed it onto the reel as it winds up.

I do the same feeding it through an old rag to clean it as it comes in. Mine has been doing OK in this matter. I learned another trick and keep a bottle of bug spray in the compartment and spray it down when after each connection at a campground, along with all ground points to stop ants. I use a "Home Defense" bug spray product.

Funny I was just researching the manual for mine as well to see it their was any lubrication required when this came up.

Thanks.

cajun can you post a video of how it is supposed to sound? I think mine is fairly week when rewinding but assumed its normal? It almost stalls with any resistance such as wiping it with a cloth.

Can’t load a video for some reason. It’s the torque that’s the difference. After more than 3 years of heavy use, it finally got to the point that I had to roll it in by hand! Now it will do you hand damage if it gets in the way! Here’s the invoice to order it from. $99.00Click image for larger version
