Extended Warranty - Opinion
Ok, I am sure we all receive these extended warranty solicitations and were certainly presented with the option at the time of purchase (assuming a new rig was purchased). But I have to wonder why an extended warranty should be considered if the dealerships can’t get to the work for weeks or even months on end. The dealers have no incentive to prioritize warranty work, as they make their money on non-warranty service work and after market installs. IMHO, I think these are a waste of money and plan on using independent mobile RV technicians when possible. I am sure at some point in time I will have to relent and go to a dealer for work and bite my tongue. Fingers crossed.
Curious as to other opinions.

I don't believe in extended warranties for many of the reasons you stated. It's like a casino - sure sometimes you walk away a winner but in the end the house always wins. They have to to stay in business. With service being so poor in the RV industry I agree with you I would never purchase an extended warranty. I would rather put a small extra payment aside with my RV payment and build a "repair fund".

I like the repair fund concept. Thanks.

I used to grab them, but for my current coach I did not. For the cost of the warranty, I could easily replace the fridge, A/C, and probably something else before I came up even. Maybe not the leveling jacks, but my rig has HWH jacks so I'm pretty comfortable w/ those.

I think with a search of both this site and the Internet you will find many discussions on this topic. From what I have read most say no.

I'd say it's safe to identify that most on this forum are handy with tools and troubleshooting/repairing their own issues.
Not all though are like this, and this is who the insurance warranty folks target. Gives folks a sense of security should something fail or break.

sadly your trailer will sit waiting to be repaired or.... they will have a out in the policy for allot of them... at the end of the day extended warranties are great for piece of mind... but most of them are just cash cows for the seller...
if you can get it in writing they will fix issues within 30 days after drop off maybe that works. As we all know the dealers are busy and short handed...
Even though it irks me i usually fix stuff under the manufacturer warranty that is just easier to do than to deal with an appointment and all that ...

Bought em all with new MH. We bought our coach in January. DW and SIL retiring in a few months. We are planning extensive travels from our home in SC to include coast to coast, north to south travel. The warranties are indeed pricey. However, virtually everything is now covered. Bumper to bumper. Wherever we go, we have peace of mind. Worth the cost to me. IMO, FWIW.

After my first experience with the dealer and the standard Jayco warranty I promptly cancelled our extended warranty. I know I will not get 100% back however it is still less than a year from purchase.
Basically I ended up working with Jayco directly which then led into working with Lippert who did actually help and provided a warranty repair. But since the dealer would not do this same thing it showed to me that they would never work with any extended warranty, and most likely the warranty they sold would not be honored anywhere else either.

I've had decent help from my dealer here in AZ.. best option they have is a mobile service team, I can schedule anything in a week , once they get parts if needed, and it's done

If I ever did decide on an extended warrantee, I'd ask a few questions before signing, such as:
Will the warrantee cover the cost for OEM parts for exterior, electronics, etc, or does it only cover costs for aftermarket type parts (maybe poorer quality)?
Does it cover any repair shop labor, or do I have to use a certain "network" of repair shops?
What if a repair is going to take a long time? Am I covered for a loaner RV (or hotel stay)?
Is the warrantee transferable to a new owner if I sell the RV?
These are just a few questions; I'm sure there could be more concerns to decide if the warrantee is worthy of purchase.

These are really not worth the money. I purchased a non exclusionary coach warranty and a tire replacement warranty. I have not used either of them in over 4 years. I spent nearly $4K on them. That's not to say i didn't have problems, they come with owning a Jayco. I just fixed them myself. I wouldn't buy a Jayco or extended warranty ever again.

I use a Coach-net exclusionary policy (lists what not covered) and have been very satisfied (3 rigs). On a previous DP coach I also had the tire and wheel which more than paid for itself with one 22.5 inch tire replacement. Coach-net IMO has competitive rates, several levels of coverage and great customer service. They will find a mobile tech for you or use a dealership (prior approval usally needed which is a phone call). I look at it as insurance and hope I don't need it. I personally would not purchase from a dealer but direct. I usually purchase around 45 days before the factory warranty expires (30 day and mileage (MH) waiting period may apply. This is my opinion.

Happy with extended warranty
We went with a warranty the dealer offered from NWAN. Sure it cost us some dollars at the time, but it got financed in the deal. We did put a large down payment on our Jayco Designer when we purchased it. So far we are ahead in the game. We have replaced an air conditioner, a large slide motor, water pump, wheel bearings at all 4 wheels, had an electrical issue on both the hot water heater propane side and the electric side and a couple of other issues . At this time we are still covered until mid 2025 so we expect more problems. The warranty pretty much covers everything and we can use mobile techs for all of it. They find the problem, call it in and do the repair. The mobil techs have been really great with the repairs and I know the warranty people have been good even with the $150 per hour charges.
Would I purchase another warranty if I bought another new unit? You bet your life I would as the build quality sucks on these newer units.
Anyway just my 2 cents on the subject.

I passed on the extended warranty at time of purchase. $4500 for four years after two year Jayco so total of six years. I waited til the Jayco warranty expired and saw how many things had to be fixed in two years and purchased an American Guardian warranty for $2700 for five years and $100 deductible. Already replaced the slide motor and one of the Goodyear Endurance tires that blew out. Got four more years left on the warranty, probably longer than I'll keep her but it's transferrable too.

Complete waste of money. We usually never purchase them but did on our previous rig, a toy hauler and every time we needed to use it for a repair…you guessed it. Not covered. Add to that the fact that any “extended warranty” coverage on the roof was only valid if we had the dealer do an annual inspection for $1000 and kept proof of payment and findings.
Put the money in a repair fund and learn to do your own maintenance and repair work.
