Exterior Door Strut Fix

Since new, my 2018 25R exterior door strut has given me issues. For the last 3 seasons, I haven't even used it. Took it off and added some rubber strips to the awning arm in case the door swung into it. Used a string to tie the door open when I wanted a breeze. Neither ideal, but they worked.

Finally got around to fixing the poor installation on the door mount today. It was originally installed incorrectly, with 2 of the 3 screws used to mount the bracket installed into the fiberglass door, not the metal. As you can imagine, those 2 screws in the fiberglass ended up doing nothing and worked their way out after a bit of driving.

I drilled all the way through the door and used 2 1/2" stainless screws to mount the bracket. Much more secure now. I know the outside doesn't look too appealing up close, but from a distance I don't even notice.

Jealous of all of you with the strut mounted on the bottom of your doors.

Good fix. If you want to make the outside look a bit more appealing just take a sharp knife and trim the butyl tape that squeezed out. Otherwise looks fine to me...

Had to do the same to my 2010 so your not alone on this one. Turned out to be a one time fix 8 years ago
