first big trip leg 1 report

So before our July Alaska trip I wanted to take the new rig out for a little shakedown. Going to a family reunion in NC presented a perfect dry run As it is over 800 miles one way.

observations
- mileage in this V10 is no where near what I got in my sprinter based rig.
- seems that just over 60mph got me about the best fuel consumption based on the MPG and GPH reported by the scangage And my fuel level....
- running the generator accounts for about 1 gallon an hour while driving
- with the caster parts added, it tracks much better and the steering wheel feels firmer.
- Getting comfortable in the drivers seat for many hours is a challenge.
- we have some bubbling on the panel seams inside the coach, specifically in the wallpaper.
- my problems with the generator cutting off when driving seem to have fixed them selves.
- we have figured out how to use the water heater.
- the pump and water heater are VERY loud.

More later as we find them.

Fortunately I have a service appointment on the 3rd of June.

Try putting some foam under the water pump to help with vibration noise

You will find fuel mileage improves some as the engine breaks in..

The water heater is loud? Mine is very quiet in LP mode, can't hear it in electric mode..
Gas mileage will vary depending on how heavy your foot is and use of cruise control staying at 60-65.

My 2015 Precept 29UM lacks lumbar support in the drivers seat. I ended up using a Therm-a-Rest Compressible pillow from my camping days as my lumbar support and it transformed the driving experience. Now I am comfortable for hours on end with no loss of support. Amazon has them. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002PW8SF0/...ter_B00HZ12DQQ

The seating needs some help for long stints in the drivers seat. I will check out that lumbar support.

Actually had a stretch where I paid attention to the trip meter and fuel I put in and recorded about 8.3 MPG. This was mostly highway and keeping it at 60mph, with only an hour or two of generator time.

I thought we had an electrical issue as the two outlets in the kitchen were not working. Come to find out, the kids pushed the gfci test button in the bathroom.

Found out why the water heater was loud, the exterior door was rattling.

Still not thrilled with the water pump performance in terms of consistency and noise. Guess I need a holding tank or something.

So mileage is way down compared to the Sprinter (as expected), but how does the engine performance compare? Noticeably more torque and power? I tow a 7x12 trailer on nearly all my trips, so I appreciate the V10 power. And what about the larger fuel tank and gas generator in comparison?

So 25' diesel sprinter with a 3 liter turbo diesel to a 33' gas e450 rocking a 6.8l v10. The dynamics are different and I haven't had any issues with power in the flat lands that we have traveled thus far. I am strongly considering the 5 star tune to cover any shifting issues in the mountains. When I need to make her scoot, she will git it done, just not as fast as the sprinter. It is very managable, but then again the Army taught me to accept a lot of odd things.

Is it pump noise or hammering sound where pipe viberation are hitting the edge of thin walls or each other. Had to buy some round pipe insulators, and cover pipes where they touched anything. Now a happy camper. Have also heard one can buy a kit that has flex type pipe to connect each side of pump. Also, some have had good results with a piece of rubber secured to bottom of pump/floor.
