First oil change

I bought a new 2016 Seneca in Nov of last year and I am trying to decide if I need to change the oil, I have about 2100 miles on it and I was looking and the build date on the Freightliner chassis was Nov 2015. I was looking and they put a dyno oil in it for break in, so should I leave that oil in it or have a oil change done before I put it away for winter.

Thanks

It's been almost a year.... if I owned it, I'd have the oil & filter changed (actually, I would have changed them before this, at ~1,000mi, but that's just me).

And, if equipped, what about your fuel and coolant filters? Again, if I owned it, I'd have those changed, too to be ready for next season.

X2

There is a lot of acids that build up in the oil. For that big engine it is not many miles. My rule of thumb is to change the oil in any engine that is to site all season and not being used. With that said I would change it.

I also like to change the oil more frequently on new or rebuilt engines for the first 6 or so oil changes.

I also agree you need to change the engine oil and filter, Cummins says every 15,000 miles OR 12 months. At the same service you should replace your primary and secondary fuel filters per Cummins.

I also recommend that you change your Cummins Onan generator's oil and filter too even though it likely hasn't hit the hours requirement. Cummins also has a requirement in their maintenance chart that the oil be changed once a year minimum.

While Cummins says 15,000 on the engine oil, I have decided not to exceed 7,500 miles on my Seneca's engine service intervals. Not as big of a hit to me since I do all my services myself. I also installed Fumoto oil drain valves on the engine and generator to make the job much cleaner and easier.

I would have never let my 1st oil change go that long. I'd actually be ready to do my second one then be on track to do them on a regular basis. I am extremely meticulous about all my vehicle maintenance tasks almost to the point of obsession...

I agree with all the above posts. You need to get that original oil out of the engine and out of the generator's engine.

We change oil Spring and Fall and all filters every Fall. Its your equipment and its reliability and longevity depends on good lubrication, clean fuel and clean air flow.

I have my 06 PSD serviced per the MFG. recommendations for towing. Oil and filter every 5k and fuel filter every 10K. Air filter every 30k and transmission oil at 90k.

Cheap insurance. My truck gets 10-12k miles a year. Most of it is towing.
