Flat towing confusion !!

I'm spending $$ left and right just to get on the road and things keep coming up that I need. I bought a 2019 24 ft Jayco Melbourne Prestige and wanted to pull a vehicle behind it. So I started looking and found out you need a special vehicle so I bought a new 2018 Chevy Colorado that can be towed. So getting what I need started adding up as I got a Blue Ox base plate, then had to get the tow bar and then the wiring. So now to my question as I guess the Law requires a supplemental braking system. Watching video's this is another crazy install tearing into my new truck. Any knowledge of getting your vehicle ready to flat tow would be greatly appreciated or products best for my situation. Also, The any benefits of flat towing as my tow rating is 5,000 lbs and my truck is around 4,500 so I'm kinda pushing the limits filling up the bed with equipment.

Thanks in advance for and help....

http://www.readybrake.com/

You can get it with the blue ox tow bar built in.
Easiest way.

I went with the RVI Brake. It is portable so I didn't have to modify my Jeep's braking system. My wife sets up the brake in less time than it takes me to hook up tow bar. And it can move from one vehicle to another.

So the force will create the tension and pull the cable ? That will save me some $$ as the others where much more.

So from what i'm seeing I need all these mechanical options as even buying new there not set up for this. So I need all these things just in towing this vehicle.

Yeah I had 2 different systems before the readybrake and I like it the best. Once you get it set up right it’s easy. Write a checklist to make sure you do it the same way every time.

We purchased a 2018 Chevy Equinox just for flat towing behind our 29MV because the vehicles we owned at that time could not be flat towed. I think the list is getting shorter and shorter of towables, especially with automatic transmissions. The brake setup we purchased included the Demco Commander tow bar and the RVi3 brake. There was work installing the tow bar including cutting the front grille, but the only thing we did for the RVi3 was to add a dedicated 12 volt outlet under the dash. There is wiring that goes to the new brake controller, but that's about it. We had a couple of minor issues with the RVi system, but when I called with questions or problems, they were always ready and willing to help. The Equinox weighs less than 3,400 pounds, so I'm not pulling much, especially with a 7,500 pound hitch rating.

Look in the forum classified section. Someone has a new one for sale at half the cost of a new one.

edit: can't find it now but they are out there used.

I went with the RoadMaster Hidden braking system in my CR-V as I didn't want to mess with anything during hook up or have to carry extra devices. All I do is hook up the tow bar and plug in the lights.... finished. The brakes work just fine (and are powered by using the vehicles vacuum booster). It was a bit of work to install but I really like it, and it is fully adjustable if needed. My Blue OX braking was very touchy and would lock the toad's wheels if not set just right.

enterprise rental is way to go.

consider from a strictly $$$ point of view how many times you could rent a car for what was spent on towed vehicle and associated equip. plus hooking and unhooking each time, getting fuel on the road.. we have a class c 25 foot and can go anywhere without a toad and for the few times we need a vehicle we will rent...enterprize is great, they will pick you up..
