Fresh water sensor keeps popping out

Hi, We have a 2016 Jayco Greyhawk 29ME and a few months ago noticed that when we arrived at out location (we were boondocking) that we had no water in the fresh water tank. After investigating, the rubber plug (sensor) had popped out of the bottom of the tank due to the rubber cracking. I replaced the plug and expoxied around it. Have gone on a few other trips lately with no problem. Now this weekend, we are on our way to our destination and have lost all of our fresh water again and the new plug is leaking. Any ideas on how to repair this problem?

What you have trouble with probably looks like these:

https://www.amazon.com/RecPro-Screw-...6904674&sr=8-1

When they're properly tightened down, the inner head expands the rubber grommet, and SHOULD seal and stay put, unless the hole was drilled out too large.

I replaced those same sensors that were in our gray tank, and they were very tight. I replaced with the Horst Miracle Probes, but they utilize the same grommet sealing system. I've never run across a sensor that wanted to fall out on its own. If the hole is indeed too big, you'll have to seal that one closed, and re-drill next to it with the right sized bit.

That was my thought - just plug it up completely. Plastic "dowel" of sorts, and lots of epoxy.

Not sure, but I think you may run into trouble getting epoxy to stick to the type of plastic those tanks are made of. Try putting a dab of it on another part of the tank first to see if it will adhere--try scraping it off. You may have better luck with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Boat-Life-Sea...6974700&sr=8-3 Again, test it before you get it all over the spot you have to fix. Cleaning the area with alcohol should help.

I would be very carefully with your epoxy choice. The water tank will flex a lot, between being empty and full, and then add bouncing as you travel. The adheazive you choose needs to be able to handle these changes.

I am not sure what the white FW tank is made from. But I would do some research and find the right adhesive for the job.

The tank material has such a low surface energy they cannot be reliably glued together so the manufacturers fabricate these tanks by welding. Google thermoplastic welding for examples, and for folks who make their own repairs.

TS, when you install the sensor, are you tightening the inner nut to make it snug in the hole, and then add the sensor wire and outer nut? The inner nut is the force that expands the rubber to grip the plastic hole.
