Fresh Water tank leak

We have a leak in our Fresh water tank. It is very hard to get at. The tank is blocked by the heat shield for the catalytic converter. Has anyone had this problem? Can it be sealed? Do we have to replace our tank? We took it to an RV shop and he won’t do it cause he said too much work. He has to remove drive shaft and a few other things to replace tank. We have 2018 Greyhawk 26Y. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't you just love the work ethic of todays workers?

Keep looking, I would not want anyone with that attitude working on it anyhow.

There are numerous "fix it kits" on the market for polyethylene. Once you make the repair I would cover the area with ETERNABOND. Make sure everything is good and clean before you start.

As a dry camper this type of problem has worried me since day one after looking at the location of the tank on my unit. I don't have any help to offer but I wonder if you can give us a heads up on the likely cause of your leak. Are there any protrusions or frame rubs that should be addressed ahead of time to prevent a leak?

We also dry camp a lot. Very frustrating. Caused by tank heater short circuiting due to the way it was installed. Apparently it is a problem with some redhawks and Greyhawk. The heat shield from the catalytic converter is incorrectly installed and causes the tank heater to short out and burn a hole in the fresh water tank.

Wow thanks for the reply. I may just remove my heater as I will never use it down here in MS. Looks like we may be only a few hours from each other. Were you using your tank heater at the time?

We were in MS a night it went down to 19 degrees and we turned the tank heater on to test it in case we needed it. We smelt a burning almost immediately and the tank started to leak.

The tank heaters are useless anyway. The exposed water lines would freeze way before the tanks would. Never used our tank heaters in the 4 years we have owned ours so far.

You can have multiple low point drains. I have two on my TT.

As I stated in my previous post, some pictures could be helpful.

Can’t get to it to take pictures. Drive shaft is in the way and the Catalytic converter heat shield is in the way. Cannot even see where the leak is. The repair shop we use told me they won’t do it cause there are too many things in the way.
