Front end noise

Hello,

Jeep has been sitting a while during winter, approx 6 months. Getting her ready for summer, took her out, aired up tires, check fluids, etc. Took her around the block and I'm hearing and feeling a slight thud coming from the front end.. More on driver's side. I can't replicate it, but seems to happen over bumps and when rig is shifting weight. Checked underneath, all looks good. Thought it was steering stabilizer, but don't think that's it. Any ideas or things to check. She's a 2019 Greyhawk.

Thanks!

Thank you Berjr! Not sure what or where that is, but I'll check the Google machine.

Get that GoPro out, mount underneath and go for a ride. Hopefully sound occurs and you can play it back and find the source.

Yep! Was thinking of doing just that. Didn't have time yet. I was hoping I'd see something visually or by checking things. But I didn't. I'll try that too. Thanks!

I had a thunk going around corners on my old Liberty. It was a motor mount gone bad. Sounds simple but my extended warranty covered the struts and CV joints replacements that did not cure it but a different mechanic found it in 10 minutes

Maybe it's just me but I'm a bit confused - is it your Jeep that is making the front end sound or your motorhome? You gave us your Motorhome model and year but no info on the Jeep. Depending on the model and year of your Jeep, a front end "clunk" can be due to different things. Example: If it's a Jeep Wrangler built prior to 1997, it'll have leaf spring suspension and is a YJ model. If it is a newer model Wrangler, it's a coil spring suspension and could be either a TJ, JK or JL. Miles, Model and Year would make it a bit easier to help diagnose your issue.

Good catch! It's the motorhome making the noise.

I would check your shocks and your sway bar. It sounds like this only happens when weight is shifting and both of those parts would be under stress in this situation.

Seems problem had fixed itself. I like those. After 10-15 miles on the highway the noise stopped. Maybe something was bound up or needed warming up after sitting so long. I do think it's probably the shock or sway bar. But I did check sway bar before and it seemed good.

Me too.
Not many items on an RV will "go your way", so we should celebrate those that do!!!

The upper shock bushings on my 2016 Greyhawk were in bad shape. They're really hard to view.

Could be tie rods or ball joints as well. Tie rods will "clunk" during weight shift and turns.

I had our jeep 2018 grand cherokee a year before I heard a weird noise and had chrysler check it out. Can't remember what it was but they fixed it and found out a month later the other one. Might want to have the dealership check it out if under warranty or a good body shop to check it all out. We a year later ended up having something come loose and it had something to do with the shocks and it hit the brakes when it made its noise. That and new brakes later no problems until I hit a deer a year later. Can't wait until next year. Sounds like something needs to be checked sooner then later.
