Fuel stabilizer to generator

If you add fuel stabilizer to your gas tank on an e450 (I have a 31FSP), how long does the generator need to idle to get the new fuel to the generator with the stabilizer in it?

My carb is dirty now because I did not run it long enough last fall hence the question.

I would just run it for about 30 mins under load just like I do monthly to get it exercised.

Don't just use a stabilizer that won't clean the carb. What you need to use is Seafoam its a great carb cleaner. I have a Honda generator for home use that sits a lot and it would idle very rough searching all the time, I ran Seafoam through it and now it runs like new.

Fuel stabilizer to generator

Right now my generator stalls out under load. It idles a little rough. Plan is when I get home Saturday is to put Seafoam in (put in half tank and then fill up to mix it up) and run it into generator. Then let it sit for a few hours and try it again. Hopefully that will fix it. Just want to know how long to idle it to get the fuel to the gen to make sure I get it soaking.

You also can run the generator straight off Seafoam. My John Deere carb was so gummed up a mechanic told me to get a longer fuel line and disconnect the line from the carb inlet then slip on the longer line and suck Seafoam out of the can and let the engine run a few minutes. Let it sit a day and repeat this process for 3 days then run from a clean tank of gas. It did the trick no more stalling and hard starting. I use Seafoam in all my small motors now along with non ethanol gas.

One more question. I am ok doing this and have all I need. Do you need to cap the fuel line from the RV tank when you pull it off the generator to keep the fuel from leaking out? If so, how to you cap the end?

I figure I have to do something with that fuel line while I am using the gas from the can.

I just let the full line hang after removing and didn't cap it since my generator fuel pump was downstream and pulled fuel to the carb

Use a clamp to close off the end or fold it back on itself and use a cable tie to hold in place.
