A lot of variables but 10mpg avg. with fairly flat and low wind. Chevy 1500 Z71 and 6 speed tranny does pretty well between 60-65

Just returned from a 2200 mile trek from Las Vegas to Jackson and Devils Tower Wyoming. Filled up 6 times and averaged about 8 mpg. Legs with hills and headwinds were a little less and more flats and straightaways were a bit more.

I'm a sales guy in telecom and even I don't embellish THAT much!!

hand calculated from MN to west and east GNP... get ready...

averaging 70 - 74 mph..

luckily tail wind both ways.. what are the odds of that???

still didn't really help all that much..

7.43 MPG average that included 3 tanks without the trailer... taking those out it was ... 7.15... 3600 miles at an average of $3.40/gal... well I hate doing THAT math....

Got 10.5+ mpg pulling the 7500 lb. TT. Upgraded to a FW 9950 lbs and still get 10.1 mpg. Run at 65 with cruise on mostly.

Happy RVing,
Jeff

I try to not let our Greyhawk get to the 1/4 mark. If we have a mechanical problem that requires us to stay put for a day or so, I need to run the generator periodically.

Gas Mileage

We drove a 1995 Fleetwood Flair 25Y until 2017. It was a class A with a 454 Chevroet big block on a P32 chassis. We covered 54,000 miles and our mileage was never above 10. Usually around 9 to 9.5, which we were quite happy with.

Class C Gas Mileage

Driving a 2017 Redhawk Class C 31 foot on a V-10 and had a 25 foot Class C on a V-10 prior. We get 6.75 to maybe 8.50 on this one and got the same on the prior one. Overall average is 7.9. All kinds of terrain and in each case pulling a CRV. Usually cruise at 60-62 MPH occasionally 65.

I stayed in overdrive a lot more and my gas mileage went up to 12 mpg.
I then starting always running it from 1/4 to 3/4 and stayed pretty close to 12 mpg with much less shifting out of top gear.

Yes, taking it to the 1/4 mark was knowing that generator use was not planned.
I can't believe now I got that good of mileage! (12 mph).
Also there was no towed vehicle.

The terrain was between Toronto and Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, so it was not that flat.
As I said, one of the big advantages was also that it would not kick out of overdrive near as much.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

We have a Jayco 29’ Redhawk on the Ford V10. We have about 25k miles on our villa.
The Good: The truck is strong and fast. We never feel like we can’t keep up, even in the mountains. We always have our home everywhere we go. We enjoy our journey. We have everything we need (except a vehicle, we have never towed). We take our bicycles. Uber is a phone call away. Our generator* and water tanks makes us fearless to stay anywhere.
The Bad: Gas mileage is not as good as our minivan.
The Ugly: We get around 8- 9 mph at 55-60 and even less if we go 70 (like 6-7).
Comments: like someone said earlier, make sure the rig meets your needs. Shop around. Negotiate for a rock bottom price. Gas mileage is still cheaper than staying in a hotel as nice as your rig. We have done the math over and and over. The villa always wins out over us driving our own minivan or flying and paying for a hotel.
*We lose about .5 gallon of fuel per hour when on generator power.

My 2008 31 greyhawk gets 8 mpg without a tow, 6 to 7 with at 65 to 70 . Hills and wind affect that .

We just completed a 2300 mile round trip in a 2018 Greyhawk 29 MV and averaged 8 mpg at 64 mph, no tow. 12-14 MPG is just nonsense.

We have a 35 Precept and always pull. Our mileage doesn't change pulling the little car behind us. We average 9.2 which was much better than we dreamed. Love our 2016 unit. I better add that towing it warns us not to exceed 60mph. And we try to keep it around that speed.

We have a 31 ft. Greyhawk and we get between 7.5 and 8 miles per gallon.

Yup, same here in our 2011 Greyhawk 31FS w/ the V10 and just got back from a ~300 mile round trip (80% at 70 mph and 20% winding roads, some uphill) w/ no towing at averaged 7.3 MPG.
