Fuel mileage

Will poor fuel mileage deter purchase? Fuel mileage is what it is. I bought for comfort, convince, and somewhat quality. There is a reason everyone can't afford a Prevost. :-) Ted

Friend of mine once said, if you have to ask the gas mileage, you can't afford to drive it!

Keith, you're correct! Fuel milage is important only when the fuel gauge shows empty.

I’m not so concerned about mileage I just don’t want to be told and expect 12-14 and get out there and find it is. only 7-9. Just don’t want surprises. It also makes me wonder what else he was not telling us correctly.

You are doing your research correctly! Your dealer is selling, and you are buying. YOU know more about what you are buying than the salesman! Take your time and don’t get locked into one rig choice.

Just got back from our first trip towing a car. 2018 Greyhawk MVP towing a 2017 Ford Edge. Just over 8.4 mpg. Both vehicles have little mileage on them. No x-way driving and a good mix of hills and flat roads. I run at 60 mph or less.

How did you tow the Ford Edge, flat tow?

Class C Mileage

We tow a Kia Soul with our loaded down Melbourne 29' and consistently get close to 9 MPG on backroads of America...interstate we would be 9-10 MPG and I drive 52-55 MPH. Use an additive that seems to help a little.

At those speeds how do you deal with the other drivers and their rude gestures??

Probably has to do with the "back roads of America" strategy.

We tried to stay off the Interstates for a while, but now we just go. 65 in an 80 or 85 zone is hard to tolerate (yes, we have quite a few of those in TX), but usually I just "park it" in the right lane; people will pass as they are able.

On the 2-lane back roads around here, they expect you to pull onto the shoulder so they can pass. I absolutely will NOT do that. I have seen WAY too much dangerous crap on the shoulder. Between that and sharp drop-offs, soft shoulders, the random disabled vehicle... no way I'm driving on the shoulder just so someone in a hurry can pass me in a no-passing zone.

Luckily TXDOT has been installing passing lanes every few miles on most of our 2-lane highways. That seems to help some, but I still get the occasional "you're number one!" salute.

If I could keep my wife's head from exploding, I would drive 55-60 everywhere and get much better fuel economy!

We have a 2018 Jayco Redhawk 26XD - towing we get between 6 & 7 mpg @ 63 mph; not towing we can get close to 8 mpg. We are mostly full of fuel and water when moving.

I reading quite a bit of posts on this forum pertaining to the newer models, expect surprises. Apparently, the quality and build tactics have dropped in recent years.

I enjoy my 2005 GreyHawk. Its quality is good, either it was during the years when their where not as many quality issues, or the quirks got resolved by earlier owners. I did have two issues with it, but one was from a previous owner that did a poor "fix" to the battery disconnect that I fixe back to OEM design.

And fuel economy for mine? The Ford V10 gets an average of 8-9 MPG. Down hill coasting, my aftermarket fuel monitor shows 12 MPG.

Just got back from a 1500 mile drive to Georgia and back. 9.4 average towing a 20 foot open trailer. Typically cruise set between 63-65.

Did 36 hours of driving from Arizona to Maryland a couple of weeks ago. Averaged 13 mpg's with my Melbourne. I had tail winds a couple of days that were nice. Cost of diesel was painful.

I have a 2015 Greyhawk 31FS. I get about 10 mpg in the best case scenario. Most of the time it is between 8 and 9 mpg depending on hills and how hard I push her. I have not towed with her yet but can only imagine it would drop down the mpg...

Yeah - 24 foot pulling nothing. I drove to Arizona in January from Minnesota. With sun-zero temps I had to run more Diesel #1. Between that and some terrible head winds I dropped to 10 Mpg a couple of days. Wind is the real enemy.
