Gas Mileage
We looked at Class C this past week we asked salesperson what we could expect for gas mileage. He said 12-14 mpg. Does that sound about right, we were looking at 24-26 ft. Grey hawk

Not even close, The ford V10is pretty good on gas compared to Chevy
Big block. But Most will tell you at 62 MPH normal load no trailer
you might get 10.5 . That is much better than the 7.1 we got in a 24 ft
Big block Chevy.
We 9.2 in our 31DS not towing and 8.5 towing a 5000 lb trailer.

class c mileage
We drove a 2016 26' class C with Ford 5.4 V8 from Iowa to Anchorage Alaska We did not push it very hard but lots of hills/mountains, headwinds etc. Averaged 8mpg for the 3600 mile trip.

Expect 7-8mpg if your towing a vehicle. That big Ford V-10 has plenty of power but is awful thirsty!
Don't believe much of anything the sales guys say...if his lips are moving, well you know what they say.
Remember, he probably has never owned a rv of any kind and just knows enough to get you and him in trouble.

That's great mileage by the way...but he said he was looking at a Greyhawk not a Melbourne. Big difference.

We have a Jayco Melbourne 24L built on a Mercedes chassis and has a 6 cylinder diesel engine. We just got back for Alaska and 10,000 miles and averaged 14 MPG in Canada & Alaska and a bit more back in the lower 48.

8-9 mpg would be considered good. 12-14 is a straight up lie from a RV salesperson. I'd take my business somewhere else. With that said, try not to worry too much about the gas mileage....they all suck. There are more important things to consider when choosing your rig.

As I started to read this... I thought that I was in the the "Jokes/Humor" section.
Our real experience with a Gas motorhome (22ft class C -Chev400CID - Carb, THM400Trans)was never over 12MPG except one time we were heading downhill all the way home with a tailwind with all the tanks empty.
I know it sounds sarcastic, but I am trying to be serious here...

My 2018 29 MVP has given about 9 mpg so far on trips. 60 to 62 mph. My 2006 29 ft Granite Ridge never gave over that. My 1999 Granite Ridge never gave over 8 mpg.

So how are people calculating consumption?
I use a blue tooth transmitter from my ODBII too an app on my phone in my sports car to read a variety of things.
I just plugged it into our RV to make sure it worked and it does.
So this next trip I will be able to monitor what the computer is calculating. It will be interesting. I am thinking 8-10

I average 7-8 mpg going no faster than 65 mph pulling a 2600 lb tow car. Will get 1 mpg more when not towing.

LOL!! Salesman has no idea what he's talking about. But that's not abnormal...
We're running the 2018 Greyhawk 29MV, which sports the Ford V10 E350 chassis. So far we've averaged right in the 7.5 area. Sometimes we've been towing our Wrangler (1994 YJ, so relatively light), and most of the time we're running the generator because it's TX and it's HOT. Fresh water tank is usually pretty full, waste tanks are usually pretty empty. I won't say we pack "light", but we have several empty storage compartments and cabinets throughout the rig.
That's hand calculated.
We also tend to idle quite a bit it seems, so that drags the numbers down a little. And I run the generator while stopped too, so that brings it down some as well. I have not made an effort to figure the MPG on pure driving under various conditions. Really I haven't owned it long enough to do that yet; we have less than 3K miles on the rig. Just bought it at end of April/beginning of May.
During our PDI, the tech suggested I calculate MPG with the dash AC running vs with the generator and the roof ACs running. He said that he's been hearing people claim better mileage running the genny because the AC puts that much drag on the engine. I don't think that's right, but eventually I will do the math myself and find out. As I said, it's TX and it's HOT, so more often than not I'm running ALL my ACs pretty much wide open!!
As was said before, there are more important things to worry about than fuel economy in these rigs. They're all pretty darn thirsty. Just put the gas in and try not to worry about it and have fun!
I will say that with a 55 gal tank, I have been cut off at the pump before. That was pretty annoying. It cut me off at $70, so I had to close the transaction and start again to top off the tank.

Bob, I think you mean a V10 E450 chassis...but your mileage pretty much matches ours.
In the whole scheme of things who cares about fuel mileage? I don't drive it everyday! That's another benefit of a motorhome over pulling a trailer.

Yup, I believe you're correct, that's an E-450 chassis.
And I totally agree. It's not my DD, and when I'm on vacation I tend to care less about plunking down some coin for a good time. Besides all that, it's no worse or better than my truck was when loaded out for a long trip. I'd sometimes get as low as in the 6MPG range towing my 33ft trailer with my Ram 2500 4x4 gasser. But I did tend to go faster towing the TT (I was properly equipped for the increased speed); I generally keep the MH around 62 (65 on the speedo). At that speed, I don't get much shifting out of the transmission except on significant inclines, and the drive is quite relaxing. DW has a lead foot and likes to keep it around 70-72 (despite my nearly constant protest), and our mileage suffers considerably. Luckily she doesn't drive that much! She likes to think I don't know how fast she's going because I'm laying down on the bed in the back. She doesn't believe that I know EXACTLY how fast she's going without even looking at the GPS on my phone!

We picked up our Greyhawk 29ME just before Christmas and on the two occasions when I felt brave enough to check the mileage, we got a little over 9MPG both times. I think 9.3 was the best. We are about to start pulling a 600+ pound motorcycle on a trailer, so will report after our next trip up to Colorado from Texas.

Real world mileage on trip from Seattle area to Alabama and back. This for travel trailer, of course.

Have you checked that lie-o-meter?
My truck was routinely over by about 2 mpg. So, when towing the dash would read 8 or 9, I could hand calculate and get 6 or 7 pretty easy most times. My Grand Cherokee overstates economy by about 1 MPG. But then that's the meter saying 20 and hand calculated to be 19; a far less egregious error!
