Generator Door Vent

Our 2017 Redhawk doesn't have a vent cut in the door that covers the generator like the newer units. Has anyone added one? If so, did you notice a difference in the hot weather performance of the generator?

I'm toying with the idea of adding one before our late August trip but wondered if anyone had done it yet.

Maybe a door swap if it's the same size. I would price that out also.
But I did see where someone did add on on here.

Drk,

We had the same problem with our Grayhawk. There is a few post on here talking about it. For some reason I just couldn't get myself to cut a hole in the door. I really like the clean look of the solid door. What I did was cut a 4" hole just behind the drivers door which allows air to flow through and past the generator.

We have road tested it on some pretty warm So Cal days and so far so good (stand by while I knock on wood). Our most recent trip we hit triple digits and the generator ran the entire time.

Also just because i couldn't stand it, I re-ran the fuel line making sure it was on top of all the other wires, not on the bottom exposed to the ground. I covered it in a heat shield sleeve. I also moved the fuel pump out of the generator housing, mounting it to the backside of the generator. I used a stainless steel shield with reflective heat tape to protect it from the ground. These mods were done before I cut the hole. I did them in steps to see if I could avoid a hole.

Sorry I can't figure out how to rotate the pictures.

Best of luck with your mod...

Rob

ID:	52249 This. Is what I did on my 2017 GreyHawk. I used a piece of flat expanded metal and some metal flat pieces for a border, and it works very well. I live and travel a lot in AZ and I don’t have any overheating problems at all.

I thought about buying the new door but ours is the tan colored fiberglass and when Jayco added the vents they had swapped back to the white fiberglass.

I have not noticed any issues with the generator in hot weather.
Have there been issues?
Or is this because new units have vents from the factory?

We've had a couple of issues in hot weather, especially when on the road and get stuck in traffic with the generator stopping. A number of others have had issues as well.

OK, Understood.
I haven't run my generator while driving.

Not just while driving. I’ve had mine shut down while sitting still. And I have the OEM vented door.

If you’re moving it’s usually fine, but when you stop, and thus the airflow stops, the heat from the road can get pretty intense, which will cause the generator to surge and then shut down.

i recently tried to order the vented door for my 2018 Greyhawk 29 MV. The idiots sent me the solid door. I explained in every way I knew what I wanted

but I got what I have now and no vent. Does anyone have the part number for the vented door? I think there is a sticker on the inside of the door. Any help would be appreciated.
