Generator help on a 2014 Greyhawk 29mv

Two weeks ago we purchased our first motorhome. It's been a learning curve learning all the process to say the least. We bought the coach used with 6,000 miles on it. Today I thought I would run the generator for a but under load as it was recommended to me before I srore it for the winter. To shorten up the story, I primed it for 30 sec. And tried to get it started, it will only turn over and hoping there is some trick that I just don't know about. The generator is a cummins onan Ky spec P 4,000 watt unit. Any help would be great.

Hi Grey,

Like you I just went from a Travel Trailer to a Greyhawk29MV with the same generator. Go to youtube and quarry "trouble shooting Onan generator 4000". There are several topics on getting the generator to start.

Take care,

S/
Rick

Per the genset manual, you really need to run the generator for at least a half-hour once a month (supposedly under 50% load, although that is hard to do) otherwise the carburator is prone to varnish. I bought my 31DS used at 13,000 miles, and the previous owner said he had to replace the carburator because of that, so I have faithfully run it once a month and had no problems.

How much gas in the tank? If you are at or below 1/4 it won't run. It is designed so you are never stranded from running the geny too long.

Got it going, I called the dealership and told them what was going on and he said to try it again and call him back. It has a full tank of gas so that wasn't the issue but a good check for a newbie like me lol. I tried again and it again wouldn't start up so on a whim I started the motorhome engine and tried to start the generator and it fired right up. I figure it must draw power from the van battery and not the coach battery and it was just a bit low. So all is good at this moment.
