GPS recommendations?????

I need to purchase a GPS to use with our motorhome-what would you recommend????

Garmin makes an RV/Trucker version of their 7" GPS…I think the model number is 760LMT. It takes height and weight into consideration for route planning.

Whatever GPS you choose, get a large screen and make sure it has free map updates.

GARMIN, every model I have ever tried has been good, I have not had good experience with Magellan, we used them at work and they were horrible

I bought the rand McNally 7730 rv gps ... 7 inch screen.. port for backup camara... campground info for more than 8000 campgrounds .. wifi capable for weather and traffic overlays

ps I think it was 300.00 on amazon and although some people early on were complaining about being able to see it in sun I haven't had any problems and my last update added a new view that had even higher contrast.. I like the multiple route configurations and being able to put in the length width and height of your unit and propane so it will route you accordingly

Do you have an ipad? You can turn it into a GPS with this.

Connects to the ipad via bluetooth. I use this product and have been very happy.

Magellan Roadmate 9145LM (lifetime maps): Had Garmin not happy. The Roadmate has 7" screen, GoodSam hotels, rest areas, fuel locations. Bought it online at Amazon.

Short answer is that its largely a matter of preference. Talk to your friends and like you're doing ask on the forum, but by listening to your friends, you can borrow and put hands on different devices.

My suggestion is don't over spend for features you might never use. I've found that a device with all the basic features of the day and yes get life time map updates, is your best bet. I have 2 Garmin and neither cost more than $140.

I have several GPS units including the in dash unit in my 2015 model. I use the Rand McNally unit for my motor home because of the campground and RV services information in it. As already mentioned, get the lifetime maps update.

My first GPS was a Magellan and I really liked it. After about 1 year I decided I would like to update the maps. Surprize, Magellan no longer supported it. Keep in mind I paid a premium price for this unit, it was not a close out or out dated model when purchased. We now have 2 Garmins and I could not be happier. As others have stated get Lifetime Maps. Keep in mind that Garmin determines the "lifetime" of their units. Just because the unit may still be working in10 years, its life may be experied., Dave

I bought a 5" RV TomTom GPS from Amazon last year just before we left for our East Coast trip. I didn't want something with too many bells and whistles, just something that would be easy to use and get me to where I needed to go. I was very happy with the TomTom and with it being 5" it did not take up a lot of space on the dash and was easy to read and use while driving. It was less than $200 with free shipping and I also added a bean bag mount that fit perfect on the dash of my F150.

I had a Magellan Roadmate RV version for 2 years and was very dissatisfied with it. Touch screen was very unresponsive, I didn't care for their UI, etc... Replaced it with a Garmin 760 RV model and couldn't be happier. Very responsive, MUCH better graphics, etc.

I missed several turns in major congested areas with Magellan. Haven't missed a single turn with the Garmin. I know it's very subjective, but that has been my experience...

I have the Garmin RV760LMT and am very happy with it. It's easy to use, can be setup specifically to your RV weights, dimensions, etc. and is VERY responsive. It also has the lifetime map updates that have been mentioned a couple of times.

I use the Waze app on my iPhone & iPad with a dash mount. Waze is a social navigation tool where members report traffic, hazards, police, etc. in real-time. It's great. I can also switch to Google maps or Apple maps, if needed. You have to pay for the data used on your cell phone, but I have unlimited data, so that's not an issue. I don't need yet another device when my iPhone & iPad do it all.

Never thought I'd want a GPS as I am good with maps. When I was a draftsman with the NCDOT in the 70s, I used to draw road maps.

But several years back we acquired a TomTom XL340. To paraphrase the old credit card commercials, I never leave the home county without it. I added a handlebar mount for it on the bike, too. Much easier than taping an open map on the gas tank.

Two must-have features for me are the lifetime map updates and real-time traffic info. We've had it warn us of major traffic delays ahead and ask if we want to be re-routed along a faster route. A very nice feature.

The library of Points of Interest includes many features an RVer might want: gas stations, grocery stores, parking lots, etc. For example I can tell it to head for the nearest Walmart ahead that is along our current route.

When the current GPS bites the dust, it will be replaced immediately.

I use an iPhone 6 plus with the Tom Tom app installed. Plugs into USB port on rv. It is nice because I use Spotify for music and it integrates nicely with the app.

I voted with my $$$ for the GARMIN 760LMT. So far in MH mode but using in DW car, it's done well. The better investment was a Walmart on line purchase for a cup holder mount - around $15.

I've tried to route plan with Basecamp. That is frustrating.

The feature missing from all if the GPS units is to interface with a TPMS so that you can reduce the dash clutter.

I've depended on Garmin since 2003. Now on #3 - the first two didn't have map updates.
