All the tank sensors are a metal type screw that connects to a circuit that can see if the sensor is in water (resistance to ground). Unfortunately, the metal gets coated with gunk and become useless. Mine stopped working in the first year. I just dump the gray tanks every few days. Black tank once a week, or when it sounds full.
You can spend a few hundred bucks and get a capcaitive type circuit that mounts on the outside of the tanks. This is what the high-end mega buck rigs use.
