We removed our couch for added space for e-bikes. Folding chairs were used in that space for lounging.
It was an attempt to find an alternative to the uncomfortable couch. That is other than buying a new setup.
The couch was disassembled, the only way to get it out of the RV, and then reassembled in our basement TV room. Our plan was to replace an old couch with it so that we would have it at resale.
In the course of placing it in the basement, we noticed that it was actually reasonably comfortable. The reason is that when placed on a flat surface the front trim tilts the couch backward. This trim normally sits below the couch and covers the gap under the slide it sits on.
After testing our observation for multiple weeks we (the DW) decides to give the couch another try in the RV this time with a modification.
We added 2x 2x4 spacers under the front sides of the couch tilting it back like it was in the basement.
You won't believe me and I didn't believe me either. It is WAY more comfortable.
This may not work to everyone's satisfaction but it doesn't take much to try it. You may want to tilt it more than we did.
To tilt the couch:
- Pull out the seat bottom like you are going to make it into a bed. This should expose the brackets holding the bed to the floor.
- Unscrew the left/right Al angle brackets from both the floor and the sidewall of the couch. Then while lifting the front of the couch slide two 4" long pieces of 2x4 (long side down) under the front edge of the side frames.
- Reattach the angle brackets tight to the floor and tight to the couch sidewalls.
- See it that isn't more comfortable?
Note: in these pictures, the bottom trim is missing. It is not necessary for you to remove it. This was left off from our re-assembly of the couch and we replaced it as the last step.
Now I have to fabricate a way to carry our ebikes on the hitch
