Help with pets getting on roof

For some reason my male outside cat has been getting on the roof of our Redhawk to sleep. I'm afraid he will claw the roof of it. I know for sure now He's climbing the back latter to get on an off.
Has anyone came up with a sleeve, panels, etc way to block off the steps.
I like my cat and he does keep the mice population down to 0 almost.
Just looking for ideas for someway lightweight to block off steps to keep him off.
Thanks

Try a rubber snake on the ladder, it will keep birds from pooping on them too

My darn cat loves to play with snakes, He'll even kill the small ones.

how about a piece of metal flashing that you bend over one of the rungs and let it hang down two or three rungs. Easy on, easy off. Go up high enough that he /she cant jump over it say halfway up, Its claws wont do it any good trying to get any traction on it. Or instead of it hanging down have it go 90 deg out about a foot or so

Ya, I was thinking a snake wouldn't do a whole lot of good when it comes to cats. That's half the reason I tolerate them all around my house. Between keeping the mice and the snakes in check, I'm glad to have them stalking about.

What about an owl though? People use large plastic owls to keep birds and other critters out of certain areas (like the front porch) around here.

You might also consider putting cayenne pepper on the rungs of the ladder. Cat goes up the rungs, gets cayenne pepper on his fur, licks it off and gets a kick. Just an idea...

Cats hate tape too, so you could put some strips of tape across the rungs sticky side up...

You could zip-tie or velcro a piece of corrugated plastic across the rungs so kitty can't climb up. You can get that sheet-type corrugated plastic at your local home improvement store. Or you could "recycle" some election campaign signs...

I'm trying to think of non-permanent ways to "train" the cat not to go up there. Eventually you'll want to use that ladder I assume...

There is a double sided tape you can buy to deter cats from getting on surfaces. They don't like the sticky texture and will avoid it...or so I'm told. Maybe just putting the tape on for a few weeks will break the cat of that habit.

Good ideas with that tape. I guess I was thinking more of a sleeve or some sort of couragated plastic and zip ty it around the ladder so he could not climb the steps again.
Thanks

Fake animals will not deter a cat. They aren't stupid and can tell the difference.

You could try something like this. More for indoors but cats really hate getting hissed at. This thing trained our cat to stay off the counter at home and our entertainment center.

Another thought is to use a motion sensor of some kind to set off a sprinkler from the top of the roof. Two or three times of that and he won't go up there anymore.

I would not worry about it. For 5 years where I use to store my TT all winter, he had 20+ farm cats that lived in his barns (free to roam).

I saw lots of cat foot prints on my roof and on the front wall of my TT. Never once did I have any damage.

Great mouse control I decided.

FYI, I have no ladder, not a clue how they got up there.

I hope that I never see damage that appears to be from a Cat to my Rubber/Vinyl roof because my little Buddy would be in big big trouble, Like maybe Life Threatening trouble

This is what I would do, have it cover the first few rungs, so kitty can't jump up. Easy on, easy off, and blocks complete access to the rungs.

Actually, set up a trail camera to catch him in the process, I would love to see a video of the kitty climbing up and down the rungs (specially down)... that's some talent!!!

No help here, but your cat sounds really cool. What a bad ass. I doubt you'll ever have a mouse problem in your rig either.

Our barn cat used to get on the roof of the goat house, we quit raising goats, tore it down, and then we found out why Snoopy got up there. To get away from the coyotes. When we tore it down, the coyotes got him and killed him.

There is spray pet repellent. Works to keep the flower beds to the flowers and not the cat litter box.

Spray a couple of rungs, scent is not great but not offensive to humans.

If he hasn't scratched it yet, why would he start? I'm a longtime cat owner, and can't see why he'd want to use the roof for a scratching post.

He sounds like a cool cat, so why mess with his routine?

Actually, I'd look for a way to make it easier for him to get up and down, like a carpeted ladder. Cats are people, too.

As far as killing him if he ever scratched it, get a grip already. A little Eternabond patch would take care of it.
