Hot Water Heater Running But No Hot Water

I have the tankless unit on our Seneca 37FS. In the middle of a shower it stopped producing hot water. It's running but not getting hot. All the other propane devices work. The only thing I noticed when I removed the cover is that the red light next to the on/off switch isn't illuminated. I've checked all the fuses. Is there a reset button somewhere that I'm missing? Cold showers aren't all they're cracked up to be! And of course the wife doesn't like it much either. Would really appreciate some help. Thanks all.

There is a hidden white reset button which is in my unit located outside behind the exterior cover. Look to the upper left. Could be another color but look closely and you may find it. The mfg. does not include any information regarding this in my operating guide. When you have the temperature control inside your bathroom set too high you will trip this and it will have to be reset as well as you needing to set things up so that running hot water runs no hotter than what you need without mixing it with cold water. It took me awhile to figure it all out before I could take decent showers. Alot of threads in the past here discussing as well as cussing out the Girard hot water heater. I assumed that is what you have.

If the reset button is not tripped as described by Oklahoma Dan try turning off the main switch on the water heater, wait for a minute and then turn it back on. I had to do that a few months ago to get mine to work.

The reset button you are referring to is a high limit switch. Chances are good this is your problem, and needs to be reset. Push the button on the switch to reset. Make sure the cover to the tankless is on perfect, and not even slightly blocking the exhaust....this can cause a restriction and result in that switch to "trip". Mine has done this a couple times until I figured out what was happening.

After reading all these threads and discussions, and cussing on tankless hot water heaters, I will make sure if I ever buy another unit, that it does not have one of those!

Jayco will replace it for a "normal" gas / electric unit at no charge. Our dealer has a long waiting list of people waiting for their water heaters to be switched out. Rumor has it that the problems are so bad that Jayco will be offering buyers a choice of which heater they want in future units.

It has to be expensive for Jayco to switch them out, as they cost 3 times what a normal unit costs, and just end up in the trash when replaced. Both of the folks that we camp with have had their thankless water heaters switched out (one had to pay, and one was under warranty). Gets old using your own propane, while paying for campground electric...

Thanks all. I've looked high and low inside the compartment of the water heater and cannot find the reset button. There's a black plastic module on the left wall and a reply on the back wall. No buttons I can see. I left it off overnight and still no red light when I turn it on and no heat when the blower turns on...it blows cool air.

We did have it turned up all the way when this happened. We set the control knob in the bathroom to the halfway point now.

Word on tankless HW systems. Safe and reliable. I just installed my second unit when I remodeled this home. Both were made by Noritz a Japanese company that has made them for about 60 years...yes 60!

There are two kinds, point of use and whole house. The ones found in RVs are probably POU which is small and typically found in hotels and apartments all over the world.

That said I would not buy a unit made in the US...they are so late to the tankless party unlike Bosch, Nortiz I would question their reliability.

But if you are considering one for your home, you should. Cost savings over a tank unit are very good and in most cases you can do it yourself. I have installed both of mine.

This only applies to gas propane units, electric is far more costly...

Thanks. But the only opinions I'm looking for here are suggested fixes. Can we please stick to that. There has to be a reset somewhere. It's a 2014 with a Gerard model water heater.

OK! Like Norty, I'd never get a TT with a tankless heater. And glad you found the reset!

Ok. I thought when I watched the video I missed that button. But it looks like I have a different model Girard that doesn't have that button. I disconnect the black box from power and reconnected it...nothing. Blower's working but no combustion or red LED illuminated.

All fuses and breakers are good. Like I said, the blower works. No flame is the issue.

Encountered same on my fridge, in fact had to manually light each use. Discovered that it will only try to light x times or x amount of time and no more.

Not 100% positive of issue but a good cleaning using damp rag and a can of lighter fluid...ok not really, but a can of compressed air as used in cleaning computers fixed whatever! That was well over a year ago and have had no further issues.

My guess is for safety reasons your unit is similar

Not all of them have a reset button. Mine does not. If it trips I just shut off the 12 volt switch for a minute and turn it back on. Only had to do this once since several wires were found to not have the crimp on plugs crimped.

Yep. Mine doesn't have the reset button either. I turned it off overnight and still no power today when I tried it.

There is a sail switch on the exhaust. Could it be possible that it is stuck closed? Try moving it with your finger to make sure it is freely moving back and forth.
