House battery

Hello everyone. Just looking for advice on the best/cheapest house batteries to get for our 2013 jayco Melbourne 28f. All of a sudden they don't stay charged so I would think we need new ones. We bought our rv last march and not sure how old current batteries are . Thank you all for your knowledge.

Best and cheapest don't usually align themselves together very often. Walmart wet cell batteries are good quality for a reasonable (?) price. You should determine "why" the batteries don't stay charged, as are the batteries worn out or issues with the charging system you have.

I suggest AGM but they require special charging parameters. How are you charging when in storage? AGM don’t like boost during desulfurization that most chargers have every several hours. Also your house onboard charger is probably a 4 stage which will overcharge any but especially AGM. Don’t leave your motorhome plugged in with the 12volt master switch on. Use a separate dedicated charger. Don’t forget the chassis battery. It’s not charging in storage and can drain down if you don’t connect a dedicated charger to it also.

Drop by an Autozone, or similar, and have it load tested. Like someone said, you may need a new battery but also find out what's going on. Unless they're original to the 2013 model which makes them 5 or 6 years old. Then, yeah, you probably are up for a new one.

Last one I bought, I was in a pickle and had to buy something fast. Went to Batteries and Bulbs and grabbed a Duracell Group 27 for $100 give or take. So far, it's been fine. Might do that again.

Do you have room for two 6v golf cart batteries? That's usually the cheapest way to get decent reliability and capacity.
