How many amps can the 7-way trailer hitch wires handle?

I want to install a 12vdc air compressor in my trailer and connect it to the 12vdc wire from the 7-way trailer hitch wiring. The Air Compressor does not pull more then 30 amps. Does any know if the trailer hitch wiring can handle this? I have 2018 Jayco Greyhawk 30XP. The trailer is a 7x14 Enclosed and only has one 12vdc overhead LED light installed. I'd like to tap into the power already coming into the trailer if the wire can handle the amperage.

Can't speak directly to FORD, but I ran a winch to load my golf cart into the bed of my SILVERADO using the 7 pin. It never faltered pulling the cart up 7 ft ramps with the winch mounted in the bed.

What size fuse and what gauge wire is going to the power source on your 7 pin connector?

If you check the fuses you will see they are 15 amp, possibly 20 amp at the most.

You owners manual should show you the respective 7 Pin fuse and the rating of that fuse.

Why not install a separate small battery and then run a charging line to that battery from the 7 pin?

I think you will find it is actually 30 amp. At least that's what GM uses.

2015 F53 Owner's Manual trailer tow fuses are all 20 Amp. The feed for a brake controller, which is by the steering column, is 30 Amp.

Maybe they changed it for newer models but I seriously doubt it.

Had to replace the fuses on the Challenger when my 7 pin lost power thanks to Camping World.

But he's talking a E-450 which is usually the same as an F-450

E450 manual the fuses are the same. Now the trailer tow power relay is 30amp but the fuse is 20.

F450 trailer tow charge fuse is 25 amp.

Best thing to do is get the fuse number from the manual and look in the box. If there is a trailer tow backup light circuit it could be either 20 or 30 amp.

looking at the 7 way harness that is NEW in the box... the power wire is a #12 and the ground is a #12, the rest are #14

If you wish to draw 30A with a #12 wire running the compressor from the tow vehicle - thru the 7-way connector???? I would not recommend it unless you have a battery on the trailer to supplement the compressors long term load.

The interconnection between the trailer and the tow vehicle likely has the smallest gauge conductors, and can vary by manufacturers.
