I am officially the new owner of a 2018 Redhawk 26xd

Hello! I am sooooo excited about the RV I bought. I found it as a hot deal at a dealership 100 miles north of my home. It's a 2018 Jayco Redhawk with 5K miles and leveler jacks and inverter. I would post a photo but I cannot figure it out! I even talked with the previous owner and he said he "wrapped wires" and bout 6 cans of some sort of protectant for the undercarriage. He also said the furnace was replaced under warranty as they put in some faulty furnaces in that model. This thing is like brand new for 59,999. Strange this is that I am very good friends with the owner. He worked at a dealership in Rochester and sold me my toy hauler. I had no idea I was buying from him as he moved away! He offered me a 5 year warranty for $4200! Said if was "cost" or something. Should I get that?

Congratulations on the Redhawk. We knew something better would come along for you! Personally, I'd pass on the warranty. You might read all the fine print on what he wants to sell you, and look for exclusions, or any other wording that would give the warranty company an out, from paying claims. That's a lot of money. What kind of warranty is he including for free in the sale? There should be something. Just my opinion.

Congratulations on the new to you Redhawk.
So $4200 works out to $825 per year for 5 years. And if you opt out of their offer you won't need anyone's approval but your own to take it where you want to for any necessary repairs. As JFlightRisk stated you won't need to worry about what is included or excluded.
Since you are not the original owner the Jayco 2 year warranty doesn't apply. If you do need some work done on anything coach related you can take it to any RV dealer, not just Jayco, because most components are the same across all brands of RV's. Anything chassis related can be done at an auto or truck repair shop. You have lots of options when you are calling the shots and not some warranty company. IMHO I would say it's not very likely you will average $800 a year in repairs over the first 5 years on a unit that is practically brand new. Ultimately it's your decision and you need to do what makes you comfortable.
If you are mechanically inclined you can take care of a lot of things yourself. If you're not, then you will have to rely on others. That could be a friend, a dealer or this forum.
Since you haven't picked it up yet make sure you prepare for your PDI (PreDelivery Inspection). Find a list on this forum and take it with you and make sure all the boxes get checked before you drive it off the lot. Make sure they go over everything - slides, batteries, fresh water system, hot water system, winterizing (how to and also where bypass valves are located), fridge operation, TV's, etc. Have your phone with you and video anything you might want to refer to later. Make sure the manuals are included for reference but know ahead of time that they are generic and may be difficult to understand or be too general.
After you get home and you're full of questions come back to this forum and ask away. There are a lot of members who have similar rigs to yours and will be able to provide answers or point you in the right direction. Good luck.

Thanks for the older/wiser advice! It makes sense to me what you are saying. I don't really need another loan out there just for the warranty then paying interest on that too! It seems like a well cared for rig and I also spoke with the original owner who seemed to be very caring of the unit with "wrapping" wires and putting on underbelly protestant etc. I thought the Jayco warrenty would transfer but never checked into it. Is there a way to post photos on here?

Extra 5 year warranty is just like leaving your money at the casino. They know the gain.
If you are a handy type lady save your money. For 4200 you can have a lot of repairs done at a shop. Good luck in all your endeavors of freedom. RVing is a lifestyle!

Warranty will depend on your network of “handy” friends and or relatives. It’s not usually the cost of the item your replacing under warranty, it’s the cost of labor. The average RV repair tech around here charges about $100 an hour minimum. The RV repair centers charge around $150-$160 on average an hour. So as you see the labor for a project can become very expensive. Replacing a part that costs $50 but takes an afternoon to replace can cost you $600 in labor easily. It makes a huge difference if you yourself or someone you can count on is mechanically inclined enough to DIY the common problems. You lose your butt dropping it off at a dealer where there is 100% markup on parts and labor is astronomical. You can save a lot of money and frustration with slow service times by dealers by having people you can call upon if a tech day is needed. Whip up a good meal or a hot pizza, a cooler full of drinks, and get your learn on in the process. We used to do this kind of event in our old off-road club. It was a fun way to hang out, help other guys/gals who’s rigs were broken, and learn new skills from guys/gals who knew more than others in certain areas. An RV group like that would be a neat thing too, logistically harder to create though.

Very nice purchase there, we love our 2018 29xk and a friend is waiting for their 26xd to be delivered any day now. Congrats and enjoy! Lots of info here to get and share. We have done a lot of adds and little upgrades since we have had ours.

Hate to burst a bubble but a still new 2019 with all the factory warranty can be had for 65K. A new 2020 can be had for $71K. I would pass on the warranty.
If you haven't put any money on it I would continue to shop I think.
