Thumbs down Incorrect Recall parts

I was just informed by a Jayco Tech Support rep that the parts they have been using for the leveling systems are incorrect. He said he doesnt know when correct parts will be available and just keep calling back for information.
I told him this does not help me in planning long trip for February.

Sorry-the recall is for 2016 to 2018 Greyhawks and some redhawks class C motorhomes that have auto leveling.
The recall # is 20V-405 2020-322
The incorrect part that Jayco sent out to dealers is a bracket for added support to hydraulic system.

Maybe make a improvised bracket till the original parts are in. At the dealership it takes sometimes 3 months before parts show up. That's why I suggest plan and enjoy your camping. If your bracket can be welded is another option.

Jayco Response

I sent an email to Jayco today (1/21/2021) that said:

"I received your recall notice for 20V-405 2020-322, Hydraulic leveling system pump and reservoir potential failure.
I made an appointment with RV One in Dover, FL to get it repaired, but the appointment is not until July 2021. They are extremely busy.
Would it be possible to get a local repair service to fix it and get reimbursed? Or do you have a suggestion on how I can get it fixed before it breaks prior to July? Thank you, Al"
Their reply:
"The repair bracket itself is on back order and still under revision. So it may still be awhile to get it done." From: Jayco Motorhome Group, 903 S. Main St., Middlebury, IN 46540
They did not answer my question as whether I could get it done at a local repair service.

So what is the solution? Get it repaired even if it is an alternative method.
RV's are build from outsourced parts, many times it can be fabricated or an alternative part can be found. I rather be camping than my RV being in a shop. Warranty has it limitations.

It's like the rest of the RV supply chain they are at the mercy of their 3rd party suppliers.

In an email I received from them on the 18th they said they are working on yet another revision of the bracket solution. Then of course they'll have to source the parts....

This isn't sounding good. My RV has been in the shop since Jan 1 to address a shortage in the radio and address other issues, one of which is the recall repair. When I last checked on it they were still waiting on the part from Jayco. Reading your post, it sounds like that could be a while

Is this the bracket that holds the reservoir to the frame? If so, I bet you can inspect the condition of your bracket. If needed make a temporary support, could be some wire cable, ratchet strap, some Unistrut, lots of options. It would not keep me from camping, but I would at minimum keep an eye on it. But if I had a long trip planned, I would probably add a strap if heat was not an issue.

It would be MUCH cheaper and more effective to just have a local shop weld up a support bracket to fix the problem, or do it yourself if you have the skill set.

As to Jayco not addressing the question about an independent shop fixing it, I would imagine that since it's a recall, they're going to want to have better/more control over the repair for liability reasons. I'm betting they won't want to allow a non-dealer service to repair it. Just a guess...

All it is is a bracket that holds the pump assembly to the frame. It wasn't designed very well to support non-static loads, so it has the potential to shake around and break the bracket. The "recall repair" is (or was) simply adding a supplemental brace to the existing bracket.

No way I would let my rig sit at a dealer for months for this repair.

My local dealer has a Mobile service..

I'm calling him soon to check on the Recall fix

If I have to pay separately I will, but checked mine and it looks very secure so we shall see

I stopped taking it in since it always took way too long to do even simple things. I get why it does but still not my cup of tea

My was fixed at a local welding shop under warranty paid for by Jayco. Fixed almost 2yrs ago and been fine ever since, with over 20,000 miles on it since the fix. A good welding shop can fix it, No parts needed from dealer or manufacture.

This link is from another thread in this forum...
It looks like a fairly easy fix.

Everyone thinks warranty is a golden solution, but it isn't - innovation is. Engineers, designers can error even when their calculations say otherwise. Buyers of RV's are the trial and testers. And if you are lucky, warranty can help you ....but at what cost?
Dealers might not always be the fasted and who wants their RV sitting for 3 months in their yard. So an alternative might be more suitable. Many RVers can solve their own problems or with the help of a friend.

Recall on auto leveling system.

Do you know what brand auto leveling system that is being recalled. I know they were using two different brands. We have the big foot and as we are driving it starts beeping saying a levelor has dropped we hit emergency retract it stops beeping and we’re good till the next time we put them down. I called the emergency number for big foot, tech said, just hit emergency retract, if you are on a bumpy road, or if a blop of air gets into system, it will beep. Scared the heck out of us the first time, I was envisioning us driving down the road dragging the levelor. Ughh. We are on the freeway in Denver, no pull outs, got off fwy and pulled to side of road. My husband, who is deaf, but insists he’s not, couldn’t hear it, grandkids were saying, it’s back here, I got out of drivers seat went to panel, it was going crazy. Found out a lot about load levelor’s that day. Made a u-turn in an interesting area and got back on freeway. Now even though he can’t hear it, I just send him back to hit “emergency retract” and it doesn’t beep anymore.

Recall parts

Our dealer ordered the recall parts and told me they were supposed to arrive 1/22. They did not. I was told today that they called Jayco and were told the original recall parts were no longer being shipped and they are working on another version. Our unit is a 2018 Envoy - which is a hybrid Greyhawk/Redhawk. It has already been recalled for a faulty bracket once and I had that recall done. That recall added a new bracket with extra gussets where the base plate joins the frame plate. I'm hoping that the extra gussets are enough - at least tell the get the bracket figured out.

Supply chain for stuff is so screwed up and will be. Stores around here are drowning in face mask, sanitizer and toilet paper now.

I called NIDRV to schedule mine and the service manager said they would not be waiting for parts from Jayco but would fabricate from their own material. Good solution for me.
