Intriguing Black Tank on my 2018 29MV

While performing some minor maintenance on our 29MV after a 3 week, 1,600 mile adventure, I noticed that a corner of the heat pad on the bottom of the gray tank had come loose, so I crawled under to make a quick repair. While surveying the rest of the tanks, wires, pipes, and tubes, I saw that either:

1. A suspension bolt had been rubbing on a corner of the black tank which had actually started to wear away the outside of the tank; or
2. When the black tank was installed, the bolt was in the way and someone at the factory (or wherever the black tank is installed) decided to whittle away a piece of the tank so it would fit.

Either way, this is just another example of the shortcuts and poor workmanship that we are seeing today. I emailed the photos to our dealer so they can add the installation of a new tank when it goes in for service in September. Depending on the outcome at the dealers, the pictures will most likely end up with Jayco's Customer Service Department.

My guess. The tank shifted just enough to come in contact with the bolt, wouldn't take much.

After crawling under my new rig and finding similar issues as you, they put the tank in rubbing and didn't think twice.

Found my tank heater pad mangled, ground cut, and wrapped around or rather stuffed into some void.

Strap that holds the dump valves had a 3" screw in it with the sharp end digging into the tank.

Its basically a 100k project car that you need to spend months on fixing.

My tank heater pad is coming off too. What did you use to glue it back up?

I have a list of items to fix in one of the next few weeks. I guess i need to check out the tanks for contact as well. Thanks for the post.

Let my local “yahoo” RV techs completely remove and reinstall a new black tank, or trim off the end of a bolt. I’d grab my dremel.

I have about 1.5cm between the bolt and black tank. There's a little scuff there, but could have been from install.Click image for larger version

Thanks Steve! I’ll be checking mine...thanks for the fix solution also. Sure don’t want a hole in the black tank smelling up the motorhome!
