Inverter Error Code E05

I was at a campground on shore power with my inverter on. We had a power outage and when the electric surged back on everything worked except the outlet the TV was plugged into. The TV works fine (I plugged it into another outlet). I checked the GFI outlets and the fuses all OK. I took the outlet cover off and discovered a relay switch. Both the wires have no power. The inverter is reading an E05 error code (overload). There is no load on the inverter. I called the Inverter Co and inquired as to how to reset the inverter. I did as they said and I'm still getting an error code.

I'm thinking if I can get an electrical schmatic I can trace where the TV outlet wire feeds into.

Any suggestions.

There is probably a circuit breaker on the front of the INVERTER that may need to be reset. Also check you circuit breaker panel for a breaker marked Inverter. JAYCO usually adds another breaker there that is the main for the INVERTER and then a secondary for the TV circuit.

There is no tripped breakers. We called Xantrex and asked them if there is a circuit breaker on our unit, they said, "No". They told us to reset the inverter by disconnecting the house batteries. It didn't work.

Should we load test the batteries?

Which Inverter model do you have? When I had that error code on mine all I did was turn the Inverter off for a few seconds and then turned it back on with the shore power off.

But if your not getting power to the TV with shore power you have to have a breaker tripped. Even though they don't looked tripped did you reset them (off then on)?

With house batteries on, I turned off then back on all the breakers.
I turned the Inverter on and the power fluctuated then I got an error code E05.

Do you think there is something wrong with the house batteries?

That is possible. Maybe the surge blew the Inverter's built in transfer switch when it came back on. If you get the error code with the TV unplugged that usually indicates a short somewhere.

Are you saying the inverter transfer switch needs to be replaced?
If so where is that located?

I have intermittent problems with the E05 error code. The problem occurs when I unplug from shore power. I've discovered that cycling the battery disconnect switch solves the problem. I've probably got a relay with bad contacts that intermittently don't "make" enough to complete the circuit. It's a simple thing to try as all you have to do is press the battery disconnect switch, wait for a bit, and press it again.

E05 error code indicates low battery input and will only be present when disconnected from shore power and without the genset running.

I'm saying that is a possibility, it is internal to the Inverter. If you get the error with nothing plugged in that indicates a short someplace. Possibly inside the Inverter. Probably cheaper to buy a new Inverter if that is the case.

It also indicates an overload or short, per the owner's manual.

E05 Red Overload shutdown
Short circuit
Reduce or disconnect the load. Make sure the load does not
exceed the XM 1800’s output rating.
Check connection to the load

I removed the relay switch that was wired with the TV outlet. That wire has not power.
I turned the house battery switch off and on. I checked all the fuses and breakers.

Do you think I have a bad battery?

I stand corrected! Thanks Grumpy. Perhaps cycling the battery disconnect switch resets the inverter. Like you said I would have to go along with excess output load up to and including a short somewhere.

"When the XM 1800 senses that the output load is above its output limit
(or senses a short circuit at the output), it will shut down. The alarm beeps
once a second, and the display shows fault code E05 alternating with
“OL”."

That (red or purple or whatever)wire only gets power when the ignition is on and opens the relay so you can't watch TV while driving.

Sorry, but I have to ask.

When you removed the relay did you rewire the outlet correctly. Should be black on the brass screw, white on the silver screw and (bare)ground on the green screw. If you reversed the white and black you have a direct short, since white (neutral) and bare (ground) share a common connection

115VAC path for the inverter would start at the input to the converter, go through the breaker of the converter, go into the inverter, go directly through the inverter (through a relay), leave the inverter through Romex that goes directly to the TV outlet. At least this is how my MH is wired. If not on shore power, then the inverter would generate the 115VAC and leave on the same Romex wire from inverter to outlet.

If you can locate your inverter, you can start with some measurements from there. The inverter on my rig is under the bed. The panel that provides the alarms and indicates is only a remote panel for monitoring only.

Bad battery should be E0-2 Low input voltage. EO-5 only indicates two things, overload or short.

Here's the link to the owner's manual if you don't have it.

http://www.xantrex.com/documents/Pow...ork)%20(1).pdf

What is powered by the Inverter besides the front TV, anything else?
