Since you know where the inverter is, start there. Use a voltmeter to see if there is anything coming out. If you have 12 volts going in but no 120 volts coming out, the problem is with the inverter.
Mine has an outlet on it that a power cord plugs into and is protected by a GFCI pushbutton in the middle. I have had it trip in the past a few times. Since you say it shows 12 volts coming in you can eliminate the input side, probably but not 100% guaranteed.
Do the outlets work when connected to shore power? There will be a transfer switch either internally to the inverter or externally to it that it connects to. The transfer switch will pick either the shore (or generator) power or the inverter.
There probably is a circuit breaker associated with the inverter/shore power feed to the outlets it feeds. Make sure it is not tripped.
What model inverter is it exactly?
