Jayco 24b Class C slide question

Hello everyone,
I am trying to find anyone who has slide issues with their 2021 Jayco Redhawk 24b.
I obviously do and I’m trying to get a list together of other owners with similar issues.
Thank you for your time.

What issues do you have?

On my 2005 Jayco Greyhawk, both my bedroom slider and main room slider worked fine the first two outings. Then the main room slider would open maybe 1/2 to 1 inch, then stop. I was able to get it to close after bumping the switch (close) a couple of times. I learned how to manually open the slider by using the correct socket and 1/2 inch ratchet. That worked fine, and there was no binding in opening or closing the slider. I then googled "slider adjustment" as I was hoping it was just a mater of adjustment causing perhaps a bit of binding that the motor did not like, even though the manual opening and closing worked easily.

Prior to manually opening and closing the main slider to check all adjustments, I went to work on the main house battery solenoid not working. I crawled under the drivers side in back, under the house battery to trace a power lead. What I found were the dozens of white ground leads that attach to a several wire strips, and these wire strips are grounded to the chassis frame. Three where broke off, and as I tugged on the rest, two more easily broke off. I crimped two broken ones onto a yellow eyelet (quality ones purchased at NAPA) at a time, then drilled holes into the frame, then used good grade 8 nuts, bolts, and washers to reattach the grounds.

On a hunch, I tried the slider, and it worked!

Other items I learned about that may help slider issues are:

If your slider requires you to install braces/expandable jacks at the top of the slider for travel, USE THEM! some slider mechanisms require these when the slider if closed, and you are traveling. These keep the slider tight and secure against the RV side. It helps with keeping a weather tight seal, as well as keeping the slider frame from bouncing around when driving. Bouncing around can bend/twist the slider frame, making it difficult for the motor to operate the slider.

Adjustment: Google "slider adjustment. There are good youtube videos that do a great job in going through slider frame adjustments. If you notice your slider sagging or tilting to to one side or the other, or it operates slowly or not at all, check out these vids on how to adjust the slider frame.

Lubrication: As part of your maintenance schedule, check the tracks for debris, and use a track lubricant for the motor drive/gear(s).

Here are some youtubes on how to identify your slide type, manually extend and retract a slide, and adjust a slide:

Thank you for your time.
I have a 2022 Jayco Redhawk 24B that I picked up in Nov. The slide broke in February. I already had a service appointment at the dealership for March 15 because I discovered the power converter never worked, and then the water pump failed. I was hoping they would take care of the screeching awning too, but they did not want to look at it. After waiting for three months for the appointment, they said the new parts will be ordered and that it will take two months for them to come in. It is unclear if I will have to wait another three months to get a service appointment to have that repaired.

I rent my rig out when I'm not using it, and this issue caused me to cancel one renter so far. I decided not to wait for Jayco and the dealership to do the right thing. The research I've seen shows that the Schwintek system, which isn't bad, just isn't reliable for full wall slides like the 24B has, and Jayco should know better by now.

I have opted to have the Vroom slide system installed, and in fact that is happening as I type this. Yes, it' $4500, but I would lose that and more in rental income before Jayco would replace the system with the same ill-chosen Schwintek. No system is perfect, and no unit is perfect. I knew going in what the industry was like, and what condition new units have been arriving in. I crossed my fingers and bought this rig anyway. I did not expect my dealership to be so useless and apathetic, however. I reached out to Jayco only to find the same from them.

Please post your impression of the Vroom slide system. The service rep at the dealer told us that the Schwintek was a poor choice for the 24B. There are a couple of videos of the Vroom on YouTube.

My stock 24B slide out is messed up badly. I'm not going to get into what I've tried, but it is a lot.

As a last resort, I've tried contacting Vroom twice via their website. They don't have a phone number nor an address on their website. No response yet from them. Anybody have another method to get a hold of them?

I just read through your other post in the general forum. Sorry for my above long post. I did not realize that this particular Jayco model had issues with their over-sized slider that you have.

I hope you and others that are going through this get it resolved soon.

I was just coming over to post the same thing.
Great video on Vroom vs Schwintek.

Time will tell but based on his description, I too would be installing a Vroom.

In working with these slides in recently, I'm confused by exactly what you are saying, but very curious to learn more.

The Lippert/Schwintek top rails are milled basically flat on the back. However, the corresponding bottom rails have a 90 degree edge [probably 3/8" deep] milled in as part the extruded aluminum track. That 90 degree edge on those bottom rails, registers the bottom rails parallel automatically to the bottom edge of the side out. That is, if the 90 degree edge of the extruded aluminum is snugged up tightly to the bottom of the slide out when they are screwed in at the factory. It makes the bottom track rails the hard one of the two to get wrong as far as parallelism goes.

Mine, for instance, were tightly snugged up when screwed in, so I assume parallel with the slide out?

I'd love to hear more in detail on his experience so I can chase this down ...

FYI: Just got off the phone with Jayco customer service. The slide is only covered for two years from the time of purchase. So I'm on my own money to get it fixed.

Since i am now beyond 2 years since date of purchase and thus out of time on getting the Schwintek slide out fixed under warranty, this .pdf was sent to me by Jayco customer service regarding getting the Schwintek slide fixed. It is their tech procedure for fixing the Schwintek slides. I thought I would pass it along. Best of luck with those full wall slide outs.

Ahhhhh..I see now

My 25r has the system that is on the bottom of the slide, and my slide is quite wide, dinnet and couch

I could see how the slide, with the side system, could flex when extended or retracted

Interesting

I had the Vroom system installed in San Diego by RV Specialists. Mark had to order the parts from Vroom directly in AZ. They did have a backorder and it was late by a month, but it's all done and so far, so good. It sounds similar, but there are no more knocking noises. I've already recouped a thousand dollars since I'm able to rent it again. I think Vroom is getting bombarded by all the folks like us.

Skorpio,
I have a 2021 24B also. Bought it with slide sync/electrical harness issues in September, those were fixed. Lower front gear failed November. That was replaced. Sync issues again in March caused by low voltage. Resolved. Since then we've Installed frame mounted hydraulic levelers, and the slide has worked perfectly since. It sounds and feels solid, consistent and true when in motion. Now, We only deploy the slide when our levelers are down and the rig is plugged into 110v service.
My hunch is deploying the slide while the weight on the suspension in some way might have caused some of my troubles.
Have you seen Schwintek Slide Owners Maunal instructs re-sync be done with slide extended?
Beware, All the you tube videos show "Experts" re-syncing with unit retracted.
A healthy battery is very important too.
