Jayco greyhawk entry steps

Greyhawk 26Y now removed motorized steps . I would like to replace with 2 steps manuel slide in. Ground to doorway 24 inches, width 26 inches. Bolt pattern under to mount is about 6 inches wide by 21 inches. Has anyone found two step aluminum or other lighter weight that will work. Thanks

Are you saying Jayco stopped installing the motorized step on Grayhawks? If so what did they install?

If true and it were me, I would find the motorized step that was installed in the last model year and buy it. I cannot imagine a manual step on a high$$ Class C. Perhaps I have misunderstood.

No I removed them Due to Moyer not working! These steps are 60+ lbs often fail due to moter

Yes, the motors do tend to give us issues every three or four years, but to me having a $90 replacement motor ready to pop in is a lot easier than moving the steps manually every time they need to be moved. Your step's motor might be move expensive, of course.

I'm not a fan of manual steps on Class C motorhomes.

In order to lower them, you must already be outside.

Thanks Scoutmaster for sharing the Kwikee motor replacement. I may just go ahead and order it with the expectation I will need it at some point.

for some reason, every time I turn my ignition on my steps go down! this just started happening. Any suggestions?

Should only happen if the coach door/screen is open (down) or closed (up) and engine on.

Otherwise just turn off the 'steps' switch to keep it from cycling.

Light bulbs blowout sometimes too. This motor is not a super duty unit, doing a tough job, on the underside of an RV. And I'll bet no one ever lubes them regularly, do we?

Standard 2 step assembly from Camping World is what I used on my old 2008 Greyhawk, when electric steps quit working ,manual replacement steps worked good ...But on my New Greyhawk I just repaired the motor and plan on keeping my electric steps working..(new =2018).

You may not need a new motor. The brushes and armature builds up grime and corrosion. I fixed mine by taking the motor apart and lightly sanding the brushes and armature. It is a fairly easy fix. I am not mechanical genius, but i had it back in and the steps working in about an hour. I went ahead and bought a new motor anyway and now the repaired motor is in my tool bay as a back up.

Haven't seen any posts in this thread about lubricating the motorized steps. I thought I had the same problem on the 3-step Kwikee steps on my 2006 Winnebago Adventurer. Realized they just need to be lubricated periodically. Bought the Kwikee spray lube (really a light grease) and never had any problems with them for 13 years. Now have a 2019 Greyhawk 29MV with the 2-step Kwikee steps and have had no issues in 2 years. And we use our motorhomes a lot and in all kinds of weather so the steps get a workout. I think lubrication is the key to keeping the steps working well. JMHO

I keep my steps well lubricated, but the motor still failed. My coach lives in a high corrosion environment so I think that is the issue. As i said it's an easy fix.

We had intermittent problems with the steps on 2018 Redhawk not retracting. Had to knock the pin out and wire the steps up so we could get them up to drive home. Took it to the dealership and they informed me that the pin was missing! They could not duplicate the problem. It happened again at home so I removed the motor and linkage. The motor worked after I removed it from the steps. I pulled the inline fuse so I would not get pinched while reinstalling everything and found the problem. One of the metal blades from the fuse was still stuck in the socket. Obviously it was a bad fuse. I replaced the fuse and have not had any more problems with it. I was relieved that it was an easy fix and wish I had checked the fuse first.
