Kitchen Backsplash

I want to add a tile or “tile like” backsplash to the Seneca’s kitchen area. I think (hope) I can pull off the backsplash board behind the stove without damaging the surface. I’m not really excited about using adhesive and grouting tile in that tight area.

I would really like to find a ”peel and stick” solution that looks good. Anybody have any good solutions.

Thanks, Mark

Mark,

I will have to find the post (I'm on tapatalk right now and I can't figure out how to get it).

I did the peel and stick from Home Depot. I've attached the picture from the kitchen (I did the bathroom also).

When I get to my computer, I will dig up the info.

We did that in the old motor home before our Seneca... It looked awesome for the first year...

The most important thing I learned about it - is heat from the sun on the outside wall. It stayed up all winter and spring, until one hot summer day the heat softened the adhesive and the back splash did not stay in place. Find the right stuff that keeps it in place, often peel and stick is designed for stick built homes that have better insulation than our Seneca outside walls do.

I found the same thing happening to a lot of the Jayfeather campers on a local dealer’s lot last fall. The self stick was all falling off.

We used a peel-and-stick metal subway tile, but I added a dab of construction adhesive just to be safe. It has stuck fine even in our 100-plus-degree summers. Tiles come in a lot of different styles: https://diydecorstore.com/aspect-bac...ite-metal-tile

Lol. Good point about the heat.

Maybe I should like the heat resistant wallpaper backsplash.

Do you remember what construction adhesive you used? I just bought a bunch of peel and stick tile for our Jayflight and plan to install it once we get a 60+ degree day here in NY (and I have time to do so).

It was this. Got it at Home Depot; was recommended with the various stick-on tiles on display there.

We put real mosaic tile behind our stove and bathroom sink area. We used mastic and apoxy grout per the instructions of the company where we purchased the tile. It's been up for almost 4 years now, the grout has never cracked, and it looks just as good as the day we installed it. I'll try to post a picture...I usually fail.

Hi Olga. Thanks for the video. We are camping with the Thunderbolts this weekend in Torry Island, Bell Glade. Was just thinking of you and Louie. Hope all is well

Hi Colby....I’ve seen that at HD, but wasn’t sure about clean up due to the surface. How is yours doing?

We generally don't cook on the stove with the exception of boiling water (prefer to BBQ). My DW likes to keep the smell of food out of the trailer. It survived the first year OK, but it wasn't stressed much.

It looks pretty good. I have the same project where I want to do a backsplash around the back of the stove with real tiles. I was a little worried about adhering it directly to the wall and was thinking about installing some type of backer board in between. I hadn't decided on what to use yet. I even wanted to use some micro cement like suggested by festfloor.pl. Did you have any concerns with adhering directly to the wall? How did you apply the liquid nails? Did you apply it to each tile, or did you spread it with a putty knife or something? My tiles are on a sheet instead of an individual. The liquid nail is a great idea.

It's now been five and a half years since we put real mosaic tile behind our stove and bathroom sink. We used ordinary mastic over the existing wallpaper on the wall and a polymer grout for flexibility. We have never lost a tile nor have we ever had any kind of cracking of the grout lines.

Just cannot see how tiles with grout could hold up to all the stress movement while traveling. I used the Peel n Stick Smart Tiles, working very well.

Well, it does. We talked to a tile company in our town, and they told us exactly what to use. It worked very well; and in our opinion, looks so much better than stick-on tile.

Hi KOKO, can you tell me what mastic brand and grout brand you used? I would like to use real tile also!
