Kwikee step acting stupid

Got 2016 Melbourne started today after 24hrs of charging battery despite trickle chargers all winter only to find the coach step “stuck” in the out position.
Screwed around trying to make sure I didn’t have a bad wire somewhere and while looking at the coach battery the step cycled in then back out.
Put the rig in gear...no response...shut the motor OFF and the step retracted. WTF? That’s bass-ackwards to how it’s supposed to operate.
Any suggestions??!!

Thanks.

What is the position of your Steps On/Off switch? The key in the ignition and on should make them retract, does not need to be running and in gear.

We found years ago that leaving our steps extended for long periods of time such as when in storage always gave us problems. We will leave them extended with the switch Off for maybe a week at a time while camping but that's it.

Winnie

Switch is on, But power to the coach is cut off.
Directions say that step should auto retract when key is turned on...instead, it extends. Retracts as soon as I cut the engine.
We never leave the step out unless we are camping and that's usually less than 3 days at a time.

Sounds like the magnetic switch at the door hinge is the problem.

agreed on switch.
but if you need to make it work correctly...

when I replaced the motor on our 2016 Kwikee steps, it was working 'backwards'. yanking the cord from the plug and flipping it, fixed it for us.

just a thought
