Land line Power connector change

Howdy we have a 2016 Greyhawk 29 prestige with 4k miles we recently purchased used that has every darn upgrade available the original owner could get. We are not new to Motor coaches but in previous days had a 34' and loved it as we traveled with as a young family

We are getting back into this now the kids are grown and we are older with only furry little friends and family to haul along way I guess youd say.. my wife loves the C as she hated feeling like she was in a fish bowl when we traveled in the A. So far we love the C and all its toys and wow has the industry changed since we had our 96 Class a..

I am a bit of a neat freak and hate the way the power cord is jammed in this little compartment. is is difficult to clean and put away neatly for the next hook up. Has anyone removed the cord and replaced it with a recessed plug that you can then disconnect the cord and put it away easily and cleanly? I see many of todays coaches appear to have this and other than cost wondered why jayco hadnt done this.. ? I am considering a recessed plug in the same compartment just the removing the cord for ease of storage and cleanliness.

If any of you have anything like this Id love to see some photos and hear about your project.

Thanks

Many people have converted to a twistlock or smart plug. I would recommend surface mount. As it will be an easier conversion.

I took the long power cord and made it into a short pigtail and use a regular 30 amp extension cord. If you want to go topnotch look into the SmartPlug.

thanks guys. I actually saw a 50 amp recessed plug in a box that I thought might mount in the actual electric bay where thee cable is now and might make a clean weather cover so to speak. Any thoughts on this :

Just that our coaches are 30A.

Based on other posts here, I went with the Marinco conversion. Not "recessed", but it is neat and looks very professional. It's an easy conversion.

I'm a retired electrician (IBEW local 46 Seattle) of 38 years. Yes that will work, it's inexpensive and installed properly will be fully code compliant.

This is exactly what I did. This also allows me to connect my surge protector to it first and then plug the 30 amp extension to it. This allows me to keep the surge protector out of sight and locked up in the power compartment when I am connected to power in a campground. Easy, neat and everything is out of sight at all times.

X3. This is a any easy and low cost mod. I didn't buy a new extension cord, just cut the existing power cord at about 3' and installed new female plug and male plug to the long end. Surge protector plugs into the short side and fits nicely in the cord compartment. You can store the "long" cord in another if desired. Also makes it easy to bypass the surge protector, simply connect the two cords together.

Another vote here for the Marinco Conversion. One of the best mods I've done...

I did just this a few years ago on my rig. Installed a 30A hardwired surge protector and Hughes Autoformer in my power bay and added an external twist lock power connector.

My bay is small, so it was hard to work on there but I'm glad I took the time to do so. I hated having to try and fit the power cable through the little mouse hole on the bottom of the compartment. Now, as you said, I can also clean the cable as I pack up and stow in my other compartment.

This is the kit I used. It will cover the the old style hole if you have on, or has the box for indoor plug like it sounds like you might have:

https://www.campingworld.com/30-amp-...kit-20300.html

You won't use all the parts. Here's a video of someone doing that same conversion. Super simple:

My covid project. I was ripping my hands up trying to get the cord back in to the hole and I had enough.

I did the pigtail in the cubby. I was going to do a twist lock or smart plug but my last rig had the twist lock and it didn’t last, especially exposed to the elements. My new connection stays high and dry.
