Laundry chute

I have a 2012 Jayco Greyhawk DS and am going on an extended trip and would like to make a laundry chute going from the bedroom (pass side) bed platform to the lower rear starage compartment. Has anyone did this modification?? Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I've never been inside a motorohome but have been working some ideas for another RV'er wanting to remove his BEDROOM area and make a large working RADIO CONSOLE/OFFICE area out of the room. He only plans on using his motorohome setup for a HAM RADIO/EOC console for Ham Radio/RACES/SKYWARN operations.

You didn't mention the model of your motorhome but if is like this 26DS model under the BED and WARD shown here is the large storage area under your bedroom area. Perhaps a small door could be added to what you have under the bed or maybe an access drop hole in the floor of the WARD cabinet. You could just place a laundry basket under the hole area. This chute idea is very popular with fifth wheels. The area under the shower side is pretty much taken up by the generator...

Provide some model number info so we can look it up on-line for you to get some ideas.

I've done a similar mod to two fifth wheels and it worked very well. In our current Jayco, there was a small cupboard fitted with a removable laundry sack which did not hold nearly enough clothing to be useful for us. I first verified that the floor area of the cupboard was over the basement and then verified that there was nothing within the floor other than floor (framing, electrical lines, etc.). I knew that the hole I'd cut would have rough edges, and located a small white plastic trash can of an appropriate size. I traced the outline of the top of the trash can onto the floor and used a saber saw to cut the roughly rectangular hole, allowing for the lip of the trash can top to extend over the remaining floor. I cut the bottom off of the trash can with a saw and placed the newly created hole liner into the hole and fastened it with a couple of screws. A laundry basket fits nicely under the hole and stores the dirty clothes until it is full and the clothes are put into plastic bags. There's still some room in the cupboard for a shelf above the laundry chute, which is scheduled to be done sometime. Here's some pictures:

I have the hamper built into a cabinet in the front of my unit and also was considering doing this mod in my bathroom due to it filling so fast. If you are going to do it under your bed you might want to consider a piano hinge and picture frame trim it with a cabinet grab so that you can close the hole. In the colder months your bed will become cold and in warmer months it will be a place where heat will get in.

Another option might just be a basket that fits under your bed.
