Right on the slide EXT/RET face plate on our Alante it says unit must be leveled before putting slides our and after slides are out. I do this and the second leveling step does make a difference.

Slides and leveling.

Over the years, I have visited a lot of RV shows and the singular observation is all units have the slides extended and the leveling stabilizers NOT deployed. So, I asked.

The best practice is to deploy the leveling stabilizers and then extend the slides; however, if the surface is relatively flat and level, the slides can be extended without the leveling stabilizers deployed. The superstructure frame and slide rails are sufficient to support the slides. BUT, NEVER extend the slides AND then deploy the leveling stabilizers. The movement caused by the stabilizers and the now off-center of gravity of the unit with the slides extended will damage both the stabilizer supports and superstructure.
