Hi - We're looking at downsizing from our Winnebago Vista 31 foot class A on the Ford F53 Chassis to a smaller Class C mostly for less driving stress and size.
We're primarily looking at the Redhawk 22J and the Minnie Winnie 22M. Almost identical floor plans. Both have pros and cons.
My main concern is that when I research about the drive-ability of the smaller Class C's on the Ford 350 or 450 chassis I see some comments about sway and wandering. I was a little surprise to hear of these issues. I had spent $3k on typical fixes on the F53 chassis to address the same issues and hoped to avoid doing it again :-)
My thought was that the smaller campers wouldn't have this problem. Is it that it's there but just not as bad as the large Class A??
I had a 2019 Greyhawk that drove horribly. I spent $3K on steering and chassis upgrades and alignments. One day I went to an RV show and drove a Melbourne. It drives so much easier. More like a good quality truck. It tracks the road great and it’s a much more comfortable drive. I traded in the Greyhawk and we couldn’t be happier. I suggest trying the Mercedes chassis.
Buckle up - what size was your Redhawk? I would expect driving issues from the larger C’s with a long tail overhang which from what I gather causes most of the problems.
We’re looking at 22-24 feet long. I test drove one and compared to my class A it was so much easier to handle. it was a short test drive and no cargo so maybe it wasn’t a good comparison.
No real issues with mine really. I mean in NM & Texas with 30+ winds, well, nothing drives good..lol
I do notice some sway when pulling my toad, eventually mayook into that
But it usually tracks really well besides strong winds
I have the redhawk 22c on a Chevy 4500. Drives great. It is more roomy, quieter, and more comfortable than the Ford, but tows 2500 lbs. less. 5000 vs Ford 7500.
