Looking at AGM as a new Chassis Battery.

The chassis battery on my 2016 Greyhawk 29MV is acting like it is ready to fail. I have decided to start research for a new battery. Seriously considering an AGM.

Will the alternator accommodate the AGM system...??

Is the battery change-over a simple swap-out, or should I be concerned about any other issues..???

If chassis only, and you stay with the same Group size, there is no difference.

Generally speaking you should stay with a standard wet cell battery with a high CCA rating. That chassis battery supplies your starting power and that needs to be a high burst of amperage. Your house batteries are the ones you want to have deep cycle capacity and there you can use AGM or Lithium etc etc depending on what your specific converter/charger is and how it controls charging.

My Jeep came with an AGM battery. There is no reason not to use one as long as the CCA etc is the same. As to the house battery(ies) I use nothing but AGM. Wet cells are so yesterday

Ahhh, no. There is absolutely no good reason to have a wet cell in anything over an AGM.

I agree.

I've been putting AGM in for all my starting batteries for many years and have been very happy with them. TX heat is hard on batteries, and I get plenty of life out of my AGMs. In fact, once I've gone AGM, I've never replaced one so far. But to be fair, we've been rotating vehicles pretty regularly the last several years... For now, both daily drivers have AGMs that I've installed, and I hope to keep both of them for a while, so I guess I'll see...

Direct replacement for the OEM wet-cell, which is nice.

I'm also probably going to go AGM deep cycle for my house 12V as well. I'm still deciding exactly what I want to do with that though...

Thank you all for your response.

The AGM replacement battery I'm considering is not a deep cycle battery, but an Automotive battery of the correct CCA rating (actually a little higher than original).

I'm now thinking the only thing left is to decide on the best AGM brand, or something "not so very expensive" (perhaps $230 or less).

Check out Sam's Club batteries.

Arizona kills batteries in vehicles at about 18 months. Very seldom did I have to buy a new battery because the replacement warranty did that. AGMs do seem to take the load better and last a little longer.

my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee came with a factory AGM battery that lives under the seat. 99,450 miles and no sign of any problem. I would go AGM when my Group 27 battery dies on my Jayco.

I like the Duralast Platinum from Auto Zone. I used to use Die Hard from Sears, but Sears is gone...

Others know more about it than I do, but there are truly only a couple different battery manufacturers. Different brands put different stickers on, same battery.

I will likely give the Duracells from Sam's a shot when I go to replace the house batts.
