I just use Google maps

Everything else I've tried is hard to negotiate, make places or lists, etc

Google maps works great, and never had any height issues yet

You could add your RV and tow info to your signature to get best advice. I have used Waze and RV Parky plus my dashboard but have never had height or weight issues.

There are several good apps that are "Close to Free" RV Life Pro $47 per year and you get a very decent trip planner with RV specific info including height / weight restrictions. I haven't found very much free stuff worthwhile in the RV world.

RV Life is also available for $9.99 a month so you have a choice.
CoPilot GPS is pretty good as well but not free
TruckMap is FREE and it works good but it may take you the lonnnnggg way.
Still better than $500-$700 dedicated GPS

I use Co-pilot which is supposed to be free, but as said the RV add on costs $29.99 for per year. I also use Google maps. The Co-pilot GPS will still operate even when I loose cell phone coverage. If I recall correctly, Google maps requires me to download the maps before my trip otherwise I loose the phone GPS. This might have changed though. One thing. I don't fully trust any GPS for low bridges or weight restrictions when moving through a city or around railroad tracks. I keep a very watchful eye out for posted restriction signs. I have been caught a couple of times, trying to find a place to turn around after taking a turn and finding an 11' clearance RR bridge for my 11'6'' high rig. Both times the bridge wasn't listed on my GPS. I bought a Rand McNally Motor Carriers road atlas which I review every night before my next day run.

Hammer is a truckers app that lets you put n weight & height. I use it to check Googl Maps before I head out on a new route.

I'd try Google first, figure out what you don't like, do like, and use that as a go/no go when looking at the features of what else is out there so you can make a decision based on what you value, not what others do. Even truckers can't decide on 'the one and only' way to go down the road.

I've use Google Maps on my Android, the wife will use Apple's map app on her iPhone. Apple's app is the most likely to assume we're in a car. Google's second.

There's been a few times where I'm following Google's directions and say "Nope! Not going that way."


What's annoying is that, as a professional nerd, I've played with the various map routing services. I've written a lot of code to call their various APIs. Tom-Tom's API has the ability to pass in your vehicles weight, height and other factors.

I have been using waze until my last trip. I will not rely on it again for RV navigation. I had to make a site change late at night because a Walmart chased us out. I had to drive an hour and a half to one that would let us stay. We were in a rural area of Tennessee. Waze almost got us killed. It tries to route you the shortest route regardless of road condition, or the type of vehicle you are driving. It sent us down one lane rural roads narrow streets with impossible turns, etc. There were major roads we could have been routed on. Come to find in the morning, there were major usable/ RV friendly roads to get us to the Walmart. It was a white knuckle trip all the way. I have done a bunch of research since i am home and come to find out there are no really good navigation options specifically for RVs, (including my Garmin) even the so called truck GPS apps give many erroneous routes. Good old paper street maps are the best option. Good luck with your search.

I too use google maps. If I have time, I will create my route at home. Review any areas of concern. You can also grab the small white dots, and move them to take you the way you want to go.

You can also review satellite imagery to see the road conditions, fuel stop options, and other items of interest.

Once you have it laid out. Send it to your phone or you can copy the link, and email/text it to yourself so you have easy access days/weeks later.

Tried during the free trial period. it's inferior to Garmin and the map accuracy is not good. It also expensive.
