Manual retraction of awning

As a new Class C owner I have been studying how to recover from RV failures that can strand me.

Like stuck slideouts and awnings & stuck down jacks.

I first tackled the awning problem with the goal of comming up with a way to retract it if I loose 12v battery power while dry camping.

I am sharing my solution with this video:

Nextup: manual retraction of both slideouts.

My TT came with long jumper cable to manually power the awning to an external 12V power source. There is a couple of little nipples to connect the jumper to the awning motor in the cover. I did it once just to try it. Bad part, you need a ladder or picnic table to reach up and make the connection.

Yes I started down the jumper cable route and then realized that I would not have a ladder that tall. So that is why I do it at the switch and use the RV's wiring.

Are you able to the drill for it's intended purpose? Seems like all that wiring would hamper it's use. Great idea.

I have done mine with the included ext. cord but I carry a 7' ladder. I have been told that any dc voltage from 6 to 20 will operate it but I have nothing to back that up.
I might try mine with a trickle charger and see if that works. These things are great to think about and have a plan in place.

Yes the drills use is not hampered at all.
I keep it in the RV for general use and for powering the hydraulic lifts and slideouts in their manual mode, should I ever need such.

From the manual:
If the original power source fails or is unavailable, the Travel'r has emergency override terminals (12V). The
terminals can be used with a 10V-14V power source, such as a cordless drill battery or car battery.

Three hundred points for creativity and 200 for an excellent video!

Me?
I'm just gonna get up there an wail on it with assorted hammers until it relents, I relent or it falls off.
