Mercedes Sprinter spare tire carrier for underneath RV

Our Jayco dealer confirmed that there are brackets beneath our Melbourne to mount a spare tire. I found this on eBay. Has anyone else mounted a spare under your Melbourne? We found the actual Mercedes rim on eBay and mounted a tire so we have a spare. Apparently Jayco removes the Mercedes rims and adds their own so we were initially told we could not get a spare that would fit all 6 wheels. Tires are mounted on 2 different rim styles by Jayco at the factory

Thanks for posing this question. We have been discussing carrying a spare tire but were not sure where to store it in the limited storage space in our Melbourne 24L. If it can be stored underneath, that would be great. My only questions would be if it would interfere with our plans of installing the HWH RV leveler system. I hope there are members out there who have done this.

As far wheels go it must be an option to get different wheels than OEM steel ones. My 24K came with the diesel generator and another option that wasn't standard but with steel wheels with SS hub caps. I am not sure how the spare tire carrier is with the 3500 chassis but I do know the vans need access from inside the rear doors to lower the spare tire. I'm sure either the OEM tire carrier or an aftermarket one could be adapted to fit. As far as interfering with a leveler install I'm not sure.

We had second thoughts and not sure we could lower the spare once installed. Apparently the release for the spare originally is inside the cargo compartment of the Sprinter. I guess I should call MB

In my cargo van the bolt to lower the wheel is in the rear door threshold.

Has anyone looked into having something mounted on the rear bumper or trailer hitch to accommodate a spare tire?

Think I am going to purchase the 9064000341 OEM bracket anyway and find a way to make it work. I like the bumper option but is the 4" bumper sturdy enough for a spare? Probably so but was hoping for a hidden mount. Plus I assume the frame is similar enough to the Sprinter w/spare for at least 1/2 of the mount to attach correctly, then maybe weld some type of drop down/bolted attachment. Was going to find a Sprinter w/spare locally, take photos, get some dims. etc but just haven't pursued this yet. Also curios of which rim style to go with. This spare would basically be for the front since I could likely change this one out.
The one on E-bay (which I added notes to) may not be the right carrier. The front looks a bit different than what is on other sites.

Must be losing my mind, not sure how I had the wrong carrier.
All squared away now....9064001141 is the correct part.

Did you ever figure a way to adapt the carrier to your Jayco 24k

For some reason I too semi-lost interest in adding the spare tire and concentrated on other issues. However I just purchased a rim and the carrier so I will post my results in a few weeks. Wish me luck

Spare Tire Carrier - Melbourne 24L

We have the same issue and currently have the Mercedes Dealer looking into the addition of the tire carrier under our Melbourne 24L. We are concerned that an auto leveling system could not be installed if we add the carrier underneath the rig. Still don't have an answer for this either.

The other option we are considering is the RoadMaster Spare Tire Carrier, it seams to check off all the boxes for what we need. Roadmaster Inc. - Tow Bars, Braking Systems & RV Accessories

We have a new 24M, and have been working on this issue. I have located all the parts from MB and will post a list soon. Jayco orders the chassis spare tire delete, so the hinge brackets are not installed on the frame on ours, but the jack and lug wrench is in the tool bin. Winnebago makes their own brackets for the frame, but wouldn't sell me a set, so I found the brackets from MB, they will need to be welded or riveted to the frame rail. In the rear, I copied Winnebago again, a square tube cross piece needs to be welded between the frame extensions with two vertical bars, then the MB hardware can be used. As for the wheel, the steel wheel can be used in any position, if you have aluminum wheels the lugs have stainless caps but are the same. The chassis is delivered on steel wheels, and I doubt Jayco goes through the difficult process of changing wheel studs in the hubs just to add aluminum wheels. As an aside, if you visit your MB dealer and ask the parts folks nicely, they will print out a build sheet based on your serial number that shows exactly what your chassis left the factory with. Don't try and order spare tire parts based on your serial number, as they won't show up.
I am going to try and add some photos, here goes.
1. Winnebago hinge bracket riveted to frame.
2. Factory MB hinge bracket.
3. Rear support structure using MB bolts and wing nuts.
You may have to reroute the water line a little from the tank to clear the spare. Double check everything twice!
