Metal Strapping to Secure Fresh Water Tank

I just picked up a Redhawk 31F. I was crawling around underneath to check things out and noticed that they use, about 2" wide, metal strapping to support the water tank. This strapping is secured on each side of the frame rails.

Anyway, while checking things out, my hand brushed against the metal strapping and I cut my hand on the strapping. This got me wondering, if the strapping is sharp enough to cut my hand, can it damage the plastic water tank?

Has anyone ever had a problem with the metal strapping damaging their water tank or am I over analyzing this?

If it's a problem, I was thinking about supporting the tank, remove the strapping, add a layer of rubber, and re-install the strapping.

The straps will not damage the tank. You will notice when the tank is empty the straps do nothing. When the tank is full, the tank bulges and the straps are tight. I believe the straps do nothing more than give a little extra support to keep the tank from rupturing when full.

At the the top of the tank there is a lip, that sits in a metal rail, this holds the tank in place.
