motor oil for greyhawk, red hawk

ford says you should use 5-20 motoroil, my dealer thinks i should use 5-30, he states that higher temps we have require thicker oil, they only use 5-20 so that can get better mileage for the epa, any thoughts

NEVER use anything except 5-20 in that engine! The oil ports are small, and designed for a light oil.

If you're under the Ford warranty, play it safe and use Motocraft oil and filters.
By the way I had to put a new engine in my 2005 F150... I presumed that because I was towing a TT in in Florida in the summer's that I needed a heaver oil. Boy's was I wrong... that's when the mechanic explained how important it was only use 5-20 oil in those engines. I thanked him, paid the $ 780.00 for the rebuilt engine and went home poorer but wiser.

As Logans said, " Use what FORD tells you". We ran 5w20 for 8 years in our 08 DESINGER MH and all was fine.

When I got our motorhome, the dealer had just changed the oil and put in 5W-30 in. I drove it home 6 miles and dumped that oil and put in my own Amsoil 5W-20. As stated above, I don't mess with the small oil ports.

While I was at it, I dumped out whatever bargain weight oil they had in the generator and put 1.6 quarts of high quality, correct weight oil for that as well.

Been using Mobil 1 0w30 since new. Have 15,000 miles now, no issues.

5w20 is mainly for EPA mileage specs. Most engine wear is on startup.
