Motorhome propane gauge

My Greyhawk's propane tank has a small analog gauge on the propane tank. No reading to the control panel, the gauge is directly on the side of the tank.

I've heard that propane tank gauges like this are generally unreliable. I come from the trailering world where I had an auto-changeover regulator, and I could simply lift the tank to see how much I had left if I wanted to. I've been dealing with those types of tanks for almost 30 years. Never dealt with the on-board tanks you find on these motorhomes before.

What are your experiences? Do you have a gauge on your tank? How accurate have you found it to be?

Propane gauge

My 2016 Seneca is amazingly accurate - I can estimate within 1/2 gallon ( 2 lbs ) of my purchase when I purchase propane - I have 10 gallons ( 40 lbs ) of useable propane - I have never run out but the guy filling it will say it was running on fumes. Les

Thanks Les!

I guess I will try to monitor it and not let it go below 1/4 tank? My next challenge is to find a place to fill it for me! It's a good thing I have a client who owns a propane business!

Just to verify the gauge accuracy, pour hot water on tank. Then feel the tank, where it feels cold is the level of the gas.

Also, I have found many campgrounds filll on board tanks with easy access.
