Motorhome Service - Legislative requirements
I encounter a bit of a suprise today when I went to a competing RV dealer to see about getting quotes for service. I am in Southern Ontario and as per some of my other posts, am not overly happy with the level of service I have received from my dealer.
A prime example is my desire to add Slide Toppers. I asked my dealer 4 times during the 5 months they had my rig this winter to provide me with a quote. By the end they did give me a quote... For two toppers... My rig has 3 slides!
So I decided today while driving past Campkins, the people I personally believe provide the highest level of service of any RV dealer in southern Ontario, that I would stop in. I asked them if they would be interested in supplying me a quote for the slide toppers on my Motorhome. They advised me, very regretfully, that because they don't sell Motorhomes their garage is not licensed to service them. They explained that under Provincial law they require a seperate licence to work on motorized vehicles even when not doing any work relevant to the truck portion itself. They are not even allowed to add a Maxx Air cover to the roof top.
Not sure if this is standard practice in other jurisdictions. But it is definetly something to keep in mind, particularily for those considering jumping into the MH market.
